We spent a few days in Parma to attend our son's graduation in Colorno and choose the Holiday Inn Express because it was fairly new and the price was less expensive than the hotels in the center of Parma. The hotel was neat and very clean. The rooms were spacious as European standards go and the beds were very comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rate included breakfast which also was very good. The hotel is at the edge of town and is a short taxi ride to the center of town if you do not have a car, approximately 7 euro. It is walkable but it would be a bit of a hike. The location is in an apartment residential area that is clean and appeared safe to me when I was out walking. The hotels in Italy do not turn on the AC until mid May so if you get a hot day you will have to open the windows, which we did. We heard the pheasants cooing in the field next to the hotel which is something I had not heard in a very long time. I would stay at this hotel again.

We were travelling in Italy for a few days and the stop in Parma was last en route. We booked HIE because in the past, this has always been a very positive experience for us. And this HIE is located very conveniently close to the city centre of Parma.
We had booked through Booking.com and went for the upgrade of the room. The room was specified to have a king-size bed. On arrival we were asked if we were OK with two twin beds. We declined. The room we have been given in the end had a double bed on the ground floor, right next to the floor entrance. Upon entry, we noticed a very intense and unpleasant smell of a cheap room deodorant (we wondered if that had been sprayed so intensely for a reason). Contacting the receptionist, we were told that this was the only room left. We thought we might survive the night but had not counted on the poorly insulated rooms. Guests were coming and going every hour of the night and we could hear every single one - and consequently did not get a single hour of sleep. When this was addressed to the receptionist in the morning, there was no offer for compensation - just a poor excuse that there was an exhibition in the city and rooms were in short supply. For breakfast, not teh usual (filter-)coffee was served, but an instant (Nescafe-type) coffee. If you wanted a decent cup of capuccino, the hotel charged an extra of
I do not think I will stay in HIEs for a while after such a disastrous experience.

This hotel was not difficult to find, but a GPS would help to get you there more quickly, and its a short drive to and from the autostrada. We booked well in advance through the HI web site and secured a very reasonable rate for a double room for 2 nights. The hotel has free parking, its located relatively close to a large shopping center (but not real close to the downtown or the main train station), and the rooms are clean, very good size, and well equipped with flat screen TV, a coffee/tea pot, good lighting and spacious bathrooms. The beds are very comfortable too. There is also an elevator. The breakfast was amazingly plentiful with a great selection of good quality hot and cold foods, cereals, fresh fruit, etc. and there's a toasters to toast bread. The hotel was very quiet when we checked in, but later 2 bus loads of Asian tourists showed around 10pm. My first thought was that the breakfast room cannot possibly hold this many people at one time the next morning. It turned out that they had a separate special breakfast room set up for group tours, and another for all other guests. The hotel provides free internet by obtaining a user name and password at the reception desk, but the internet was extremely slow, and unreliable. You could literally see the bars go up and down (mostly down). There also a free computer in the lobby with free internet, but that internet service was slower than on my laptop. Aside from the lousy internet service, I had no complaints. I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again, if my travels take me to the Parma area.

The Holiday Inn Express Parma scores highly on everything that we wanted. We have been driving across Europe and staying in Holiday Inns all the way. This H. I. Express should be downmarket for the price but is superior in almost every way.

Lovely, well-equipped, clean and comfortable room. Very friendly and helpful staff and excellent food in the restaurant. There is plenty of safe parking and strong, free Wi-Fi. What more could you want?

Well, the only thing which is missing is easier access to the town. It isn't a quick, easy walk as we would have liked but that can be a plus if you want a quiet safe environment.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights. I e-mailed the hotel to ask them to make restaurant reservations for us prior to our arrival. That took several e-mail exchanges back and forth even though my e-mails were clear and concise. In the end, they were able to book one of the restaurants for us which I suppose is better than none. We mostly just booked here because we needed a place to sleep. We knew would spend most of the time exploring the area and eating out. Overall, this is a no frills hotel with a relatively decent (in comparison to most other hotel breakfasts in Italy) breakfast buffet. Everything was clean and orderly. My main gripe was how horribly their wifi system is set it. It requires registering a device, then getting some random auto generated password that needs to be used to access the wifi every time upon returning to the room. I would never recommend a business traveler stay here for that very reason. The connection was also shoddy and very slow. We had poor signal strength from our room.

We chose this hotel as a stopover for our long drive south. We had basic expectations based on our knowledge of the chain. We were very pleasantly surprised by this hotel! The staff was very nice and helpful, great English We ate dinner in the restaurant on the main floor and were BLOWN AWAY! Most hotels will serve the basics but we were able to sample plenty of local goodies. The rooms were clean, had two TV channels in English, and met our needs quite well! This was definitely a great find!
