Beautiful location, Helpful and Friendly Staff, Rooms with high ceilings and large bathrooms. The Lunch Buffet at the Beach Restaurant was amazing especially the selection of sea food.

Room Tip: Most rooms face the beach but the rooms facing the front of the hotel have a better view. Prefered the older rooms.

I have recently had a 3 night stay with my family at this hotel.
First of all I have to say that there 2 different hotels here: the Grand Hotel, whose rooms are located into the white beautiful building, and La Residenza (adjacent building). WATCH OUT when you’re booking since it makes the difference: rooms of the Grand Hotel (rated 5 stars) are bigger and more luxurious than the ones in La Residenza (rated 4 stars). For example a classic room is about 19 sq. mt. in GH and 14 sq. mt in La Residenza. Also price is obviously different: about +30/40& in GH.
My room was located in La Residenza and was very small but I was not surprised since I knew what I booked. Considering that the service and facilities are exactly the same for both customers, in my opinion La Residenza has a much higher P/Q ratio.
My package included beach and half board: both were really ok.
Restaurant offered a very good selection and quality food both at breakfast and dinner; a lot of spaces between tables, beautiful marble, red moquette.
Also in the beach there is a lot of spaces between sunloungers, facilities are excellent also for kids, sand is very thin and the staff is very professional (after 1 day they greated us by name).
All in all, the GH is an institution in Italy and a place to see and be seen: when you’re having a walk in the garden you’ll see a lot of people outside the hotel who tries to get a picture of the buiding and has a look at people inside.
I rated the hotel 4/5 only for average room size, very small for a 5 star hotel.

Room Tip: Watch out what hotel you're booking!

I stayed here for three days on a convention and I had quite a pleasant experience. The building itself is a real “Grand Hotel” and it looks stunning, especially from the beautiful outdoor garden and terrace. The place has a certain fin-de-siecle charm which makes it kind of special and definitely fascinating, however the décor in the public areas (especially corridors and stair landings) is very faded and ruins a lot the overall impression.
Rooms are nice, quite large and look recently refurbished with period furniture and very good bathrooms.
Breakfast is somewhat a turndown because you would expect something richer and of better quality from Rimini’s most prestigious address: what they serve is in fact a very average breakfast, which you could find in any other hotel on the Riviera.
Finally, the beach is probably the best in the city but is extremely expensive: ask before you buy!

We stayed at the Grand Hotel some years ago. At that time the hotel was decadent yet charming. We stayed again last april, in a newly restored room. Wow, despite the ancient charm was still present, everything was immaculately restored. The bathroom was beautiful with mosaic tiles and the room had a new marble floor. The locatios is always the best in town.

This is a grand old hotel as everything about it - the facade, the service, the celebrity photos from a bygone era and of course the appearance in Federico Fellinin's Amarcord - attest. OK, so the iconic status is slightly devalued as the times have changed. When my wife and I spent a weekend there recently the ballroom was being used for a meeting of the local Rotary Club, many staff spoke Russian as the city has become a favourite for mid-budget tourists from Russia, and the beachfront across the street is truly tacky. But the rooms are well appointed and mostly all refurnished, the staff are very professional and helpful, the restaurant is elegant and its food and wine list is excellent. At the end of the day, it would be hard to diminish the value of a building as charming as this one.

We booked on the internet at the last minute and noticed that the hotel's website offers last-minute specials not available on commercial web booking sites. And on top of this, we were upgraded to a junior suite because the hotel was not full. Perhaps the management knew I have been meaning to visit this hotel ever since I saw Amarcord over 45 years ago! But even without that sort of nostalgia, this hotel provides a restful sojourn where once the old money went.
