We stayed at the Grand for 3 days, when we checked in we had booked a suite, the room we were given was a small room with cracks in the walls and leeks in the hard wood floors, this was to be an up grade?? after a long discussion with the manager at the front he said he gave us a special room, This was a upgrade, that had a large bedroom, and large bathtub, and bathroom,
and walk in closet...The room has decent air conditioning, but the main areas of the hotel do not..the hotel hallways are cracking and really in need of restoration!! The pool area and grounds are nice!

Room Tip: See all your room choices before you select one...get a beach view!!

We stayed in Rimini as a stop between Assisi and Verona. I got what I thought was a good deal for a room on Expedia. When we arrived to check in, the person behind the desk said “Oh. Expedia” - a hint of things to come. We were shown our room which wasn’t in the main building but out the door, down a flight of steps, across the road and into another building. So the room is OK, fairly basic and small. One of the inclusions in our room rate was free wi fi. Trying to connect, we were told we needed log-in details but when we tried to get these, we were told that as we weren’t in the main building , that didn’t apply to us. After some discussion, I was reluctantly given one password complimentary for our visit which covered only one device, with no way to switch devices.

Plus the beach is a nightmare. Most of the beach is sublet to nearby hotels or organisations like the military. You have to pay to even get on the beach or to see the water. The sand is covered with deck chairs and umbrellas, a multi coloured monstrosity. The public area is at the very end, the water didn’t look clean and the sand was filthy with empty drink containers everywhere and littered with cigarette butts.

Breakfast the next morning was fine with a good selection of fresh fruit and the eggs were delicious as was the cappuccino.

Room Tip: Be aware that you might not be staying in the main hotel but in La Residenza.

I have recently had a 3 night stay with my family at this hotel.
First of all I have to say that there 2 different hotels here: the Grand Hotel, whose rooms are located into the white beautiful building, and La Residenza (adjacent building). WATCH OUT when you’re booking since it makes the difference: rooms of the Grand Hotel (rated 5 stars) are bigger and more luxurious than the ones in La Residenza (rated 4 stars). For example a classic room is about 19 sq. mt. in GH and 14 sq. mt in La Residenza. Also price is obviously different: about +30/40& in GH.
My room was located in La Residenza and was very small but I was not surprised since I knew what I booked. Considering that the service and facilities are exactly the same for both customers, in my opinion La Residenza has a much higher P/Q ratio.
My package included beach and half board: both were really ok.
Restaurant offered a very good selection and quality food both at breakfast and dinner; a lot of spaces between tables, beautiful marble, red moquette.
Also in the beach there is a lot of spaces between sunloungers, facilities are excellent also for kids, sand is very thin and the staff is very professional (after 1 day they greated us by name).
All in all, the GH is an institution in Italy and a place to see and be seen: when you’re having a walk in the garden you’ll see a lot of people outside the hotel who tries to get a picture of the buiding and has a look at people inside.
I rated the hotel 4/5 only for average room size, very small for a 5 star hotel.

Room Tip: Watch out what hotel you're booking!

I stayed here for three days on a convention and I had quite a pleasant experience. The building itself is a real “Grand Hotel” and it looks stunning, especially from the beautiful outdoor garden and terrace. The place has a certain fin-de-siecle charm which makes it kind of special and definitely fascinating, however the décor in the public areas (especially corridors and stair landings) is very faded and ruins a lot the overall impression.
Rooms are nice, quite large and look recently refurbished with period furniture and very good bathrooms.
Breakfast is somewhat a turndown because you would expect something richer and of better quality from Rimini’s most prestigious address: what they serve is in fact a very average breakfast, which you could find in any other hotel on the Riviera.
Finally, the beach is probably the best in the city but is extremely expensive: ask before you buy!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Welcome to the Grand Hotel Rimini, welcome to charm! The Grand Hotel Rimini, the five star deluxe hotel which has always been considered as the symbol of "La Dolce Vita" on the Adriatic Riviera, is a magnificent building with more than a 100 years history. Inaugurated in 1908, a national monument since 1984, the Grand Hotel Rimini has always welcome a large number of celebrities: the tenor Caruso, the Duce Mussolini, Gorbatchev, Bush Senior, Federico Fellini and his wife Giulietta Masina, Lady Diana, Christian Barnard, Tony Blair, Sharon Stone, Albert of Monaco, Edward of Windsor and the Dalai Lama, just to mention a few. With the taking over of the Batani family in 2007, major renovation works have been immediately started following the criteria imposed by the Italian Ministery of Fine Arts and today the Grand Hotel Rimini is back to its ancient splendour, especially the mythical Liberty facade. New, precious materials such as travertine, onyx and white marbles from northern Italy beautifully combine with the renovated original parquet flooring and Venetian flooring in the ancient ballrooms, in a beautiful harmony between old and new, history and present time. The ambitious project will be completed with the setting of the famous domes that went destroyed during the terrible fire that broke out in July 1920.The Grand Hotel Rimini is defined by its guests as a "magnificent oasis of tranquility." It is surrounded by a luxuriant garden of centennial pine trees, olive trees and flowers and stands just a few steps away from the private beach of golden sand, with a kids’ swimming-pool, restaurant-bar and a wellness centre, open in summer time.At just one kilometre from the hotel, the historical centre of Rimini is the heart of luxury shopping and night life. Culture and the arts are also very well represented thanks to major international art exhibitions organized every year inside Castelsismondo, the several castles dating back to the Malatesta seigniory (1500) and extraordinary Roman remains.High oeno-gastronomy is the specialty of the house. The hotel’s ancient ball rooms are the beautiful setting to "La Dolce Vita" restaurant where the Chef Claudio Di Bernardo and his brigade are proud to welcome you. Simple, natural and wholesome qualify the chef’s strong passion for good cuisine. In summertime, dinner is served on the magnificent terrace overlooking the sea and the gardens. The atmosphere is unique: the gentle sea breeze, the excellent cuisine, the elegant orchestra playing romantic music on the backdrop of the famous Liberty facade... Just like one of the famous scenes from Amarcord by the great film-maker Federico Fellini! ... more   less
