“Excellent location; great staff”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

Upon arrival, the staff directed us to parking just inside the gate and very near the hotel (included in the cost of the room). If you are driving, this is an important consideration. This was a nice hotel with a relatively small room that was clean with the usual amenities. The receptionist was very pleasant and helpful. We walked up the main street to the fortress and the first and second towers before returning and visiting the basilica of Saint Marin (19th C). There are lots of older churches in the area (St. Frances from the 13th C and a monastery). There are lots of "hidden" streets in the town that a longer walk and a bit of curiosity discloses. The town was very clean and orderly. We ate dinner at the hotel and had an excellent 4 course dinner for 25 euros each as a guest in the hotel. It included antipasti, ravioli, grilled chicken, sausage, beef and dessert. Drinks were extra and service was exemplary. This is a very interesting town to visit, and the hotel's location makes it a very good choice.

From first setting foot in this beautiful hotel set in the heart of medieval San Marino we felt right at home.
We had a job locating it to start with but once we had found the car park (no 6) we walked around the corner and there it was. A prefect location.
A staff member walked back to the car with us and assisted with bags. Checking in was trouble free, they just gave us the keys, said we looked tired, we could bring out passports down later.
Our room was a good size with a deck and balcony looking out on the most beautiful view of the countryside.
The bed was hard, very hard, but pillows good and AC fine so we slept well.
There were very few plugs in the room so we unplugged the TV and used the power outlet for charging etc. the room was dark, insufficient lights.
the bathroom was well appointed but with the smallest shower we ever been in. Not built for a larger person and don't drop the soap.!
Can't comment if the TV worked or not. Wifi was free but turned off from time to time.
What really made this hotel work so well for us was the staff and location.
Location perfect. Staff couldn't do enough for us. Where it fell down a little in the bedroom it made up for in all other areas.
We ate at the hotel restaurant every meal. There were many others restaurants around but when you find the best why change it. They could probably improve the breakfast selection but the service was so good we overlooked this. They were happy to cook up fresh scrambled eggs and we had great coffee brought to the table at any time.
We just loved the friendliness of the staff. We didn't have language in common but felt we had parted with good friends when we left.
Would thoroughly recommend a stay here , it is just lovely.

Room Tip: Rom 106 was perfect.

This hotel has a great location, but our standard room was very small with no view. They had other rooms available, but the up charge for us to move into a better room was double the cost. We were in San Marino for a very short time, so it was very convenient to be able to walk around the old town right from the front door of the hotel. It is a thrill ride to drive up to the parking lot just outside the gate for the pedestrianized area which is a couple of doors away from the hotel. You can get a full day parking for 4 euros from the hotel. They have a balcony where we took our books to enjoy the view out to the Adriatic. Also ate a delicious dinner in the hotel.

The hotel is in a perfect location, right on top of the mountain. From there, apart from the 3 towers and a few shops, everything is below it.

On the plus side: beautiful, incredible scenic views (ask for room 305 you will not be disappointed). The hotel is well equipped; well working air conditioning system (please do remember this is an old city with old buildings.. If you expect a Sheraton or Marriot go elsewhere, like Rome), mini bar, satellite TV (mostly Italian channels with a few English language news channels). The staff are super friendly and go out of their way to help you.

On the negative side: the bed is rock hard (but the housekeeper placed two duvets at the bottom to soften the bed up, which helped - a bit), the shower stall is very, very small (it was difficult for me to get in, let alone shower, but I did manage) and finally breakfast is not to a US or British taste (remember that Italy does not do a good breakfast). Finally, in our room, the wifi internet was impossible and had to sit in the hallway to access it.

Overall a very pleasant experience.

We got the tower room with splendid views over the whole valley. Service was very good, staff very friendly. The hotel is at the most convenient location in old town.
We also eat int the reaaurant, which was a good experience as well and worth the price. Breakfast was nice and rich for italian tradition.

Parking was very convenient and hotel provides reduced tickets.

Always again

At first I was very unhappy. I arrived on a late afternoon by bus from Rimini. From the terminal I asked where the hotel was which was explained for me. I then had to walk uphill for 20 minutes with my suitcase (luckily one on wheels) at 30 degrees celcius. This was an unpleasant surprise. When I said so at the reception desk the, very friendly lady, said " o, why didn't you phone, we would have been glad to pick you up". For so far the negative part of my experience. Now for the good things. Hotel fine, good room, very clean, very tidy. In the evening I had a great dinner in the Cesare Restaurant and the next morning I had my breakfast on the outside terrace which was great. Strolling around in San Marino in the evening is great because it is very quiet then. All in all a positive experience.

Excellent service from start to finish, professional, friendly and efficient. Nice, clean and practical, if not totally modern, room with a great view of the plains towards the ocean. Great location half way to the top of the Old Town (Centro Storico) of San Marino. I would not hesitate to recommend staying at this hotel, and, yes: It’s worth spending the night in San Marino, because when the masses leave in the afternoon, you can enjoy the old town in peace and quiet.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a room with a view of the plains & ocean!
