I have looked at other reviews and see that most visitors are Italian and that the greatest number of 5 star reviews are English. I suppose that is because Trieste is somewhat off the tourist route and also because the Italian customer is more demanding and/or knows his/her coffee better.
The café is physically very imposing. It is large , well furnished and has an atmosphere. The location is great, in the most beautifully proportioned square, which you have to imagine at the height of Trieste's importance, probably in the early years of the 19th century.
The waiters were well turned out in clean white jackets, always nice to see they have gone to some effort. The coffee was OK and the cakes, though we did not partake, looked very attractive.
It was all in all a pleasant way to spend a hour on a cold, sunny February day.
