Chose the Continentale based on location and good reviews, and were not disappointed. We were travelling as a couple by train, each with a fairly large suitcase, and we walked back from the hotel to the railway station, hauling our suitcases, in 15 mins (we are regular walkers, and used to this!) It's a fairly direct walk from the station to the hotel, but when arriving in Trieste we missed the small turning off to the pedestrian street on the left. Very convenient for the canal area and good restaurants, and from the seafront, and for popping in and out of during the day. Located on the corner of a small road and a pedestrian street. We had requested a quiet room, and when we arrived very early we were given the choice of another room which faced the road and was ready, or of waiting for the quieter room on the 4th floor facing the pedestrian street which I am glad we decided to do. Staff were very professional and helpful. Room was very good, with wooden furniture of an older style than expected, and a wonderfully comfortable 6ft bed. Good shower room. Buffet breakfast was excellent, and could be eaten inside or outside if the weather was fine.Would highly recommend the Continentale. Only warning is that the marble floor in the entrance lobby can be a bit treacherous if wearing smooth rubber-soled shoes which have got wet!

Room Tip: Request a quiet room when booking. Our room on the fourth floor, facing the pedestrian street, was g...

This hotel is located a couple of blocks from the canal area, and a few blocks from the waterfront. It's a short taxi ride from the train station, which you can also walk to, but it's too far to haul suitcases. The first room we stayed in had a horrific sound multiple times that night of water pounding down when the rooms above flushed their toilets (we assume that's where the noise came from). It sounded like marbles banging down the pipes. We changed rooms the second night, and that room was much quieter, but we kept the door to the bathroom closed since some water noise could still be heard. I don't know how you can prevent getting into a particularly loud room. We also only found out that breakfast was included when we received the final bill.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't have the water noise.

hotel was very clean. great location. close to restaurants. hotel is difficult to find since it's on a side street. if you have your own car, parking is inconvenient. Breakfast was very good. Try the cookies in the sitting room.

This is a very comfortable hotel well located in the centre of town on a pedestrian street. Easy to walk to the canal area. Breakfast was excellent. Highly recommend if using public transport.

However, if you need parking then the hotel's car park is 2 km away. It's actually a public municipal car park. The driver of the hotel's minibus is phoned, you wait for him to arrive & then you go through the busy traffic to get across town to the car park. This is a real pain if you have luggage, kids in tow & it's hot. Also if a number of people are checking out at the same time you may have to wait for one mini-bus load to go & the bus to come back before you can use the service.

Very nice hotel with excellent position in the center of town. Pleasant and helpful staff, comfortable and clean rooms, comfortable atmosphere. A wonderful restaurant in the hotel with outdoor garden on the promenade in one of the most beautiful streets of the city. A very wide range of foods, especially rich offer for breakfast. We would strongly recommend this hotel to any tourist or business trips.

This is a wonderful hotel -- quiet, well located, comfortable rooms, super well maintained and clean. Breakfast was excellent. One evening, I ordered room service for dinner, at that was terrific, as well. A real stand out is the hotel's staff. They are helpful and friendly way beyond expectations. Case in point -- they arranged for a taxi to pick me up from the airport. Due to bad weather, my flights through Germany were delayed. I emailed the hotel and they stayed in timely contact, rescheduling my pick up to meet my flight when it finally arrived. And this wasn't a quirk -- all other special requests for taxi arrangement, directions to local restaurants and so forth were met with friendliness and enthusiasm. I would gladly stay at the Continentale on my next trip to Trieste.

We were arriving by train and wanted a hotel within easy access to the station. We had no trouble walking from the station to the hotel (luggage in tow) and quickly were checked in. Our room, a superior on 4th floor (facing the pedestrian street) was spacious, relatively quiet especially at night), had a comfortable king bed, crisp linen and spacious marble bathroom with small but well appointed shower. Breakfast was enjoyable with good choices of hot and cold items, cereals, fruit and pastries. Well priced hotel and highly recommended!
