“Grand and beautiful spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2014

Beautiful old buildings, with one side of the plaza open to the Adriatic. Several side streets branch off from the plaza, leading to great restaurants and shops. The week I was there, a stage had been set up for an outdoor classical music concert. Although the stage intruded on my photos, the concert was free and well attended by the locals. The lighting of the plaza at night was very pretty.

“The greatest square by the sea”

A must visit at sunset with the last sun sparkling on the golden mosaics. From there take a walk in Cavana or on the molo Audace.

“Big; no trees/shade; no seats, but good all the same.....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

Town Squares are meant to be a crossroads cum distribution points for a city and this one certainly does this. It has at least 8 streets running off it plus a frontage to the harbour waterfront. It contains the very helpful Tourist Office and some high priced restaurants, plus some memorable buildings. Just remember that in this square and in it's immediate surrounds, you will be charged all sorts of so called "service charges"; if you sit [ even inside on a bench] you will be charged an additional $2 US per person for a coffee. So think twice before you , sit, use a paper towel or do anything other than stand at the bar and consume your goodies. It is always better to admire the square and go a bit further down a side street to a local coffee shop or bar where they do not have these ridiculous extras; n.b. They are always more interesting anyway !!!

“Spectacular”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

This Piazza is more like ones we saw in Vienna. Quite pretty and huge right alongside the Adriatic Sea. Not crowded and prices in the surrounding cafés surprisingly reasonable compared to St Marks square in Venice and others in Rome. A lovely surprise!
