“Adequate hotel in a brilliant location”
Reviewed 8 May 2011

I stayed here with a mate on a cheap 3 day trip around the Friuli Venezia Giulia region at the end of April 2011. When we arrived at the hotel, we missed it a couple of times, as it's labelled Centrale Pensione, rather than hotel, but after 10 minutes or so, my companion pointed it out to me and, sure enough, it was the right place. We went up the stairs and were quickly greeted by the receptionist, who took our passports and gave us a key for our room.

The room was not huge, but had enough space. There were a wardrobe and a good sized chest of drawers too, had we been staying a bit longer. The shower was powerful and hot at all times we tried to use it. The bidet and sink were both clean and fine. The window looked onto an internal courtyard that wasn't very interesting, but no noise from the street came through. We stayed in a room with a shared WC and that was in a small cupboard about 10 metres from our door.

Breakfast was nothing to write home about and we ended up only eating in the hotel on the day we were taking a long train ride to Venice. There were a few pastries and jams, with some bread. Not bad, but a bit low on choice. The "juice" was also cordial, which was a bit of a shame. Coffee was obviously excellent.

The location, for the cost of the hotel was genuinely impressive. We were next to the Chiesa di San Antonio, and all of the best bars and restaurants, central piazza and the railway station were within 10 minutes' walk.

I would certainly stay there again if I was in the area.

This is not a hotel, it's a "pension"

First of all, we didnt even find this so called "hotel". you have to go into a normal building, where nothing is written on and then you have to go inside an appartment, at that is the so called hotel.

the room was very smelly and not nice at all, even for that price.

i canceled my second night there, because i had an family emergency and hat to go back home. the lady at the reception said that she wont charge me the second night, which was very nice from here. BUT NOT i got my visa invoice, and they CHARGED me tweo nights! i complained at the hotel, and they said "bad luck"!!

I will never go to this "hotel" again and would NOT recommend it to ANYBODY!

This really is a superb hotel in it's great location, we even had a concert across the road for the two nights we were there. It was spotlessly clean and we could not fault the reception. I always consider breakfast is the most important meal of the day as it cleans your system out from the previous day. Well, we arrived in the breakfast room and seeing others there before us we got on to helping ourselves from the buffet, we then found out that the girl in attendance was in fact being chatted up by a young man, she hauled herself up and told us we were only allowed one drink, and there was no American coffee only expresso or tea. my wife had the coffee i had the tea both were lukewarm. there was not much in the way of cereal unless you like corn flakes, and the bread was a day old. We were not all that impressed. The following morning, much the same and there must have been a few in before us as we got the last of the bread. Then three more arrived, the girl exited herself and these others just did without.
A great visit to a lovely hotel in my mind spoiled by a sullen girl who could not have cared less about the needs of her guests.
We would go back, and recommend it to others, but it is up to the management to sort her out.

This is a great little hotel in a fantastic little city! It may be somewhere to stay on a budget, but it is clean and the staff are friendly PLUS you couldn't get a better location!! 30 seconds from the Grand Canal and one minute from the sea front.
Our room didn't have a toilet (but it was immediately outside the room) but we did have a shower with fresh towels daily. Our window also looked onto one of the main piazzas so we felt right in the heart of this bustling little place.
If you've never been to Trieste, just go and do stay at the Hotel Centrale!

  • Liked — The cleanliness, fantastic location and friendly staff!
  • Disliked — Could have done with air conditioning but you get what you pay for and this is budget at its best!
