The hotel owner in Corniglia recommended this restaurant to us. In November, Corniglia is very quiet. We loved the village and also the restaurant. As there's few tourists, we didn't make any reservation. Luckily, otherwise we'll regret cause we stayed for only 2 nights. First impression is the dishes are family style and tend to be expensive. But actually, you pay for what you get. Material is fresh and well prepared. Very tasty family food with some personal touch. We could definitely feel that the owner loves the food and wouldn't offer low quality food to clients. When you know its quality, you'll think it's reasonably priced. We ordered seafood spaghetti and fish with stuffed herbs and artichoke. Loved both. The desert is simple but surprisingly tasty.
As a family ran restaurant, the owners are also the cook and the waiter/waitress. Mr 'Cook' speaks only italian. Maybe that's why he doesn't speak much to the clients. But besides his great cooking work, his service is also attentive. Mme 'Cook' services clients mostly as she speaks several languages. She's polite and kind. When they know the client appreciate their work, they become more open to the clients.
Lastly, bread and service charge are common in italian restaurants. Sometimes, bread is separated from service charge. Most of the time, this is marked on the menu. Bread is presented automatically. If you don't need it, maybe it's better to refuse in the beginning.
We had a very nice time dinner at Mananan. We'll definitely go back if we pass by cinque terre next time!

My husband and I had dinner at this restaurant very recently. We had read the reviews on Tripadvisor about the food and service so we had an idea what to expect. We did not book a table but were the first customers to step in when they opened for dinner. The owner who was less than friendly, asked if we had a reservation. When we said no, he pointed us to a table and said quite curtly, " here!" Someone we know who lives in Corniglia had recommended that we try the fish. My husband ordered that while I took the vegetarian quiche. My dish was so so. As for the fish, we had better ones at Lake Como on this same trip. My husband also had a glass of their table red wine. We had such good table red wine throughout our 16 day trip of Italy, except for here. It tasted horrible, cost so much and came in the smallest wine glass we had ever seen. Overall, it was not a good experience for us.

A very small place that fills up fast. Even with reservations it doesn't guarantee you get a table. The food was incredible but when we tried to get in there a second night we were rather rudely turned away. The owner, an elderly man, isn't the most social man in town but boy can he cook. It's the food that brings you in, despite his personality. Go there for a meal if you can. If you can't get in, well thats just too bad for you.

A friend had eaten here over a decade ago and said, if you get to Corniglia - eat here. He's a major foodee and has a cooking blog, so I trusted him. There were indeed over 400 stairs from the train station, but at the end of the trail - a delicious lunch was to be had. House wine, anchovies, pasta, pesto... traditional local fare. The chef came out to chat with local friends... and I was enchanted by the black and white photos of grape-stomping men from a generation ago in their birthday suits... all in all, worth the climb!
