“All we could ask plus a WASHING MACHINE!”
Reviewed 9 July 2012

In August 2011, my wife and I, our two daughters and their husbands, and our 2-month-old granddaughter stayed in Apartment No. 1 with its Green Room, Pink Room, and Blue Room, as well as a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom with shower. It was clean and delightful and could not have been more perfect for our family. We could have used another bathroom, of course, be we got along fine. But our greatest discovery was a small machine in the kitchen by the sink that turned out to be a washing machine for our clothes! Corniglia is a very small place, and I'm not sure it even has a public launderette; we didn't see one. But we were at the point in our trip when we were all running out of clean clothes, so the washing machine was a godsend. As you can tell from Le Terrazze's Web site, staying in the apartment was a little like living in a dollhouse, with all the trinkets and knickknacks everywhere. There was no air conditioning and only one fan; we could have used two more fans. Mariangela met us at the town square and could not possibly have been friendlier or more welcoming. We had breakfast every morning outside in the garden. The food was abundant and delicious, and the service was superb. In short, this B&B was a delight from beginning to end, and I recommend it very highly.

We had tried to find accommodations in one of the other Cinque Terre towns, but they were all full. But after getting a good look at all five towns, we were delighted to be staying in Corniglia. It's the smallest and doesn't have a harbor, but it was deliciously quiet and uncrowded, and we relished that.

We spent four days tourings Cinque Terre, which is as dramatic and romantic a landscape as you'll find anywhere. Originally we had planned to stay in Vernazza, but we couldn't find an acceptable accommodation, so we went with our second choice, Corniglia. Unlike the other villages, this one is set high above the sea and is not quite as accessible. The great plus of that is that, while it's charming and has great views of the sea, it doesn't attract the crowds, so it has a greater sense of tranquility about it. Your local restaurant choices are narrower but certainly adequate for a stay of a few days. The other great plus is Le Terrazze, run by the down-to-earth and friendly Mariangela. We can't speak to the all the room options offered, but we stayed in the La Serra apartment, which is a terrific two-story hideaway offering a wonderful patio with lush greenery and outstanding views of the village and sea. The spot is amazingly private and the interior is delightfully decorated and nicely equipped. It was also spotless. It would be difficult, indeed, to imagine better accommodations. In addition, at the main building, Mariengela serves an excellent, generous breakfast--one of the best we had during our three weeks in Italy. The wait staff was agreeable and prompt, and the setting for the breakfast is a very attractive patio. You will be very happy you chose Le Terrazze--just make sure your fitness level is at its peak so you can handle the amazingly steep trails that connect all the villages!

My husband and I stayed here after staying in an amazing hotel in Florence. There are a ton of stairs and we had way to big of suitcases ( 1 each) to tote up the stairs but it was worth the views. This is the least touristy of all the villages and there are only a few places to choose from to eat in town. We did go get a pizza one night at the only pizza place and ate it in the room. Pizza was actually some of the best we had on our trip!! It was very clean, with a small kitchen & bathroom downstairs and a bedroom upstairs. The bed was AWFUL, I mean I hardly slept i was tossing and turning all night and so was my husband. We almost slept on the floor it was so hard! So WARNING about the bed... That was a major down fall because after all the hiking you want a good nights sleep!
** Also we missed breakfast because she failed to tell us that it ended at 10:00. We had been traveling a lot and this was toward the end of our trip and we wanted to try to sleep in one day. Just make sure to get up early if you want breakfast.

What a wonderful bed and breakfast. La Terrace is a small villa with upstairs bedroom and downstairs kitchen/lounge. It has its own courtyard and no neighbours to worry about. You get views of the sea from everywhere. We picked Corniglia because it was the least touristy of the five villages though there is still plenty to do and it's a great base for the walks between the villages For dinner we bought fresh produce and local wine and ate out on our terrace each night overlooking the sea. Breakfasts were over in the hosts garden courtyard, with something different but tasty each morning. The sisters are beautiful and friendly and it was a wonderful four days. Be more organised than me when paying as they only take cash for payment and there is only 1 ATM in the village which was broken the morning I was to draw cash out to pay. We made other arrangements and the trust of the sisters in me was welcome but unexpected in this day and age. If you arrive with bags there is a bus from the train station up to the village or you can walk. And don't forget to always validate your train tickets....

Mariangela is an absolute gem and welcomes you at anytime. We got access to our room at 11am after a 2 hour hike from Vernazza - and had a view overlooking the inlet of Corniglia. Le Terrazze has a goregous little courtyard on the ground level that you can sit in and have a glass of wine and they serve a very generous breakfast there each morning. The perfect spot to set up with a good book and some samples of the local produce.

The rooms a beautiful and there are many common areas where you can cook your own food or sit and read a book or listen to music. It's right in the centre of Corniglia and Mariangela has a great restaurant recommendation...if you can get a reservation!

My husband and I stayed at this bed and breakfast for 4 nights. We stayed in the La Marina 2 apartment. It was perfect for us. It had a lovely kitchen, a sweet balcony, livingroom, and bedroom. The location was great (although it has a lot of stairs to get to it, but totally worth it). Our host Mariangela was very sweet. Overall a great place. We'll definitely come here.
