Bed and Breakfast Le Terrazze

We enjoyed Mariangela's hospitality for four nights in September in our private villa "La Serra". We were attracted to Corniglia by the reports that it is less touristy than the other towns and found this to be very accurate. Perhaps because it is perched high above the water, accessed by steps either down to the swimming area or to the train station. The station is also serviced by a shuttle bus. Our villa at Le Terrazze was very comfortable, spacious and had the added bonus of a private garden with town and sea views. We also had a small kitchen with fridge and stovetop but when we queried why the stovetop wasn't working Mariangela just looked bewildered and said there's "no gas". This was the only negative thing about our stay. We discovered that there was gas supplied to the villa but for some reason she didn't want us using it. When we explained that it might be handy to make the odd cup of tea or coffee she offered to give us hot water from her kitchen in the main building.??? Breakfast in the garden of the B & B was a highlight. Good choice of sweet & savoury with some delicious home made goodies and good service. There was also a space to leave our car in a vacant lot not too far from the B & B. Mariangela runs a very good business so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Le Terrazze and the town of Corniglia.

Room Tip: Villa La Serra is separate from main B & B with its own garden

We stayed at a lovely little apartment separate from the main B&B. It had a small balcony with a wonderful view of the Cinque Terre hills and the sea. Great waking up in the morning and seeing that breath taking view :)

It was a cozy one-bedroom apartment that had a living/dining area with basic appliances (microwave, electric stove, fridge). No air conditioning in the bedroom but we didn't need it during our stay as the weather was already chilly at that time, especially at night. There was also no wifi at the apartment but we were able to use the one in Mariangela's office. It was fun watching people walk by while we were sitting at the steps of her office, making use of her wifi.

Mariangela was such a warm and lovely host. She and her sister prepared delicious breakfasts of eggs with bacon, and a spinach tart/quiche, with an assortment of breads and jams. She gave us tips on good places to eat when me and my husband set out to have dinner at Monterosso.

We're definitely going to stay at this B&B again if we get another chance to visit Cinque Terre. Out of the 5 villages, we can say that Corniglia was our favorite :)

I would have given this place a 5 star because it is, but there was some misunderstandings regarding the accommodations. Like the previous post, there was no internet. The owner sluffed this off that with such a beautiful view who needs internet. Unfortunately we did. Are travels were here and there and it was ritual for us to relax with a bottle of wine at the end of the day to plan out our next day which included train schedules and activities. We had a wonderful private patio looking down at the sea and it would have been nice to use it while doing these activities. We also needed to check our email to check with our children in the States. Regardless, the first night we sat on the steps of the main house (we were quite a ways away) to do these things which wasn't the greatest. We thought we could do these things in the morning at breakfast but there was no internet there either. We did find a little shop near us that offered free internet so we purchased a few items daily and sat on their bench late evening to take care of a few quick things. Outside of the internet issue, the place was perfect.

We were given a private apartment with private yard that overlooked the sea. Everything was new and clean and we wish we had been able to stay a few more days because it was so nice. Breakfast was the best we had. It consist of Egg w/bacon, croissants and sweet rolls, fresh fruit, juice, yogurt etc... My husband enjoyed the coffee. He said it was the best he had on the trip at the hotels. It is more of an American style coffee where as the other places we stayed offered really poor cappuccinos. I chose to have tea and have my espresso across the way (just cady-corner across from the front of the B&B, great espresso and treats, you can use the B&B's internet there at the outside table) before heading out.

Corniglia was the perfect place for us. Very small and intimate, a great place to relax. There are a lot of stairs to deal with coming up but you can take a shuttle. Lots of stairs going down to the water. Note that the trails between Corniglia, Manarolo, and Riomaggiore are closed. You can do a hike to Vernazza but it may be challenging for some.

Vernazza is a nice combination of the towns offering a place to hang by the water and a little more action. We liked all the towns although Monterosso is more touristy and if you want to hang out at the beach be prepared to pay for a lounge chair or be crowded on shamelessly small areas considered free beach. We did do a roundabout hike (pretty long) around the highway to get to Manarolo and Riomaggiore. We enjoyed both towns. Stop by a place on the waterfront (left side facing water) in Manarolo and enjoy what they called Manarolo Bruchetta (I think). Your basic Bruchetta topped with a generous helping of fresh mussels. Delicious!

All in all we were happy with our stay in Corniglia. I would definitely recommend this B&B, just be aware of the internet issue.

Room Tip: Ask for the apartment if you want your own personal space with no attached walls (remember no intern...

I don't know whether it was the language barrier that lead to misunderstandings, but there certainly were a few and pretty important for us.

Firstly, no room with a sea view or garden was available when booking but I was offered "another room no sea view, but very nice and a private bathroom with stairs down you get into the garden of the B & B" (quote from the e-mail). What I expected: a room at an upper floor with easy access to the garden. What I got: a studio in a different building (from the garden we had to climb some stairs to get to the street, cross it and climb more stairs to get to our studio).

Secondly, when I asked about WI-FI the answer was "I have wifi in my house and is possible in the garden or in the street infront my door ". My expectations: we will be able to connect in that house and possibly have wi-fi signal also in the garden. I was wrong again, as our studio was in a different building. Furthermore, there was absolutely no signal in the garden. The only option to connect was to stay on the street (ok if you want to check facebook for a couple of minutes, completely not ok if you have e-mails to answer, documents to check, etc).

There were other things that we didn't like:
- in the first day we found an ashtray with cigarette subs in our room
- the coffee at breakfast was the worst I had in Italy
- there was no blanket in the room (I found a spare pillow, but no blanket)
- if you are looking for an illustration for "kitsch" you could use photos of this studio

Nevertheless, if you want to self cater and spend a longer period of time, this studio may respond to certain needs as it has a fully equipped kitchen, washing machine etc. We didn't need nor try any of these.

What we liked:
- the garden looks nice indeed
- the staff serving breakfast
- location in Corniglia - close to bus station

Room Tip: Specifically ask whether you will be staying at the B&B building and request a list of room'...

Stayed for two nights in consistently great weather. Walking down to swim at a local pier with crystal-clear waters and no commercial/tourist boating. Great starting place for the coastal trail towards Monterosso. Well decorated rooms with a lovely look into town, and good hospitality during staffed hours. After all that, a nice well-rounded breakfast. What's not to like?
NB: For the spontaneous planners, you need to be upstairs to use their wi-fi (the signal doesn't reach the backyard).

My husband and I stayed for five nights in June in Via Serra which is a beautiful self contained villa with not many steps to get to overlooking the township and the ocean. We had a lovely paved yard to sit in and admire the views. The villa has a downstairs bathroom and kitchen with upstairs bedroom with balcony. Corniglia is a lovely village on top of the hill and is very quiet compared to the other towns. Mariangela and her sister cook the most delicious breakfast in their home each morning and was a great way to start the day. Our last morning we were leaving early to catch the train to Monterosso and then onto Milan so we were given a breakfast food pack for travelling. I would recommend a stay here and we would love to go back again. It was a great way to relax in the middle of our trip.

Room Tip: Make sure you catch the green bus up the hill from the station as it is a long walk with suitcases o...

Mariangela is a great host and provides a great little B&B in the middle of Corniglia. Very reasonable prices.

If you're arriving late make sure you have access to a telephone to get access to your room.

The views are amazing, the unit well equiped with a self contained kitchen.

Will stay again.
