“right opposite the train station”
Reviewed 24 October 2012

We choose Manarola as it sounded picturesque, and Franco's place seemed to be not hard physically to reach and we were right! It is literally opposite the train station but not marked so we wandered around for a while before finding it. It's on top of a restaurant. That means it was noisy in the room by day but by 10pm, the restaurant had closed and silence ruled the streets until the church bells resumed around 7am and the village started waking up.
The room and ensuite bathroom were pleasant, welcoming and spotlessly clean. Only negative thing was that one of our mattresses dipped into a V shape, which meant one of us had an uncomfortable night (all the more unfortunate was that that was me!) . I wanted to tell Franco in the morning (we only stayed one night) but unfortunately we were rushing to catch a train so I hope he reads it here and I'm sure he will fix that because he was a genial man who obviously took a pride in his place.
There are around 30+ steep stairs to climb to reach the property BUT if you walk round the back of the building, far fewer steps, which is especially helpful with suitcases.
Cinque Terre is beautiful and Manarola was like a picture postcard.

My husband, myself, my daughter and her husband stayed in Manarola the end of September 2012. We were overjoyed at the location since it was only steps away from the exit tunnel of the train station. Franco met us with little glasses of his homemade limoncino which was fabulous. We each had a room with a balcony. The rooms were spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished. There is a very nice little restaurant downstairs with the absolute best cannoli. We also ate outside in their covered area for dinner one evening which was also very good.
We couldn't have been more pleased and thought it was the best place to stay and an incredible value.

We stayed for 4 nights at pensione Camero Franco in Manarola and loved it. It’s a great deal (the most affordable we found) and perfect place to stay. Great location, just 15 seconds out of the tunnel and there it is, you’ll notice a door on the left from the restaurant with stairs leading up. Franco is a great host and offered us homemade limoncello upon arrival. Franco is not fluent in English (his son is) but he makes up for in with a warm, larger-than-life personality and very accommodating. Total fun. If there are issues simply call out and he will come down.

Our room was spacious room (with fan, just request it) was outfitted with a small refrigerator, kettle and a balcony (facing the street) with seating - perfect for catching some rays, reading or people watching. Very large bathroom, good shower pressure. It was all spotless.

For those who have concerns. Yes, there is some noise from the restaurant below (discount if you eat there), and the recycling bins (was not as noisy as some reviewers have mentioned (not at night and we did not notice the train noise at all day or night). Manarola is probably the most relaxing and quietest of the villages and we loved coming back each day to relax and unwind. And don’t forget to try some amazing food at the restaurants in town. Definitely recommend, it’s a great little place, we loved it and I miss sitting on the balcony. It's been 2 months and I still miss it.... lol.

After hiking all 5 towns, we congratulated ourselves for having decided to stay in Manarola and at the Ca de Capun. We stayed in the Painter Suite which includes a bedroom, a living room, a bathroom, an entrance hall and a balcony. Franco is as charming as the other reviewers describe. The room is equally charming. Everything was clean and in good repair. The decor included antique large wood pieces which did not crowd the room. The doors were hand painted. Truly lovely.

We enjoyed da Aristide, the restaurant downstairs. They give you a discount when staying at the Ca de Capun. A small crowd of locals wait for them to open to eat the delicious pastries and cafe (the only good ones we had our entire 15-day trip). Their dinners are also quite good, the second best restaurant in town. Our favorite was Trattoria dal Billy, who served us an appetizer of 12 different fish dishes.

Our favorite places to swim were in Manarola at the end of the northern path and Riomaggiore, the stone beach. Water was clean and beautiful. You could dive from the rocks.

My GF and I had left our accommodation booking for CT until the last minute and while we were searching the night before we arrived we found Ca' de Capun Camere Franco. There is a website (which the name eludes me at the moment) which allows you to email every hostel/hotel/bnb in CT to see who was what availability and at what price, which I tried but majority of the replies dent come through until the next day. But We found Ca' de Capun Camere Franco through tripadvisor and it turned out to be an excellent find!

From the replies I had Ca' de Capun Camere Franco was the cheapest on offer (high season) at 60€ per night. It's only small with 2 rooms each with their own bathroom which were recenty renovated and very clean.

On arrival we were met by Franco who showed us the room and explained the keys, then gave us a glass of the famous lemoncello and that was basically the last we saw Franco!

The room itself was large with twin singles which we pushed together and a nice new bathroom also generous sized. The other room appeared to have a double and a single bed. The room also had a nice little balcony perfect for relaxing after a long days trekking.

Manarola is the perfect place to stay in CT as it's only small but has everything you need and when all the other tourists head back to the bigger towns it's so peaceful and you really get a more authentic Italian experience.

The 2 main restaurants in town are basically the same price but we found the one the left (as you head downhill from the square) better food and service. We had the mixed grilled seafood and mixed a seafood spaghetti both amazing and less than 30€ total is very good value!

There is a small convenience store below the room which has most things you need and the small bar fridge in the room is perfect for breakfast items and a few beers!

We loved CT and this town an this accom was a big part of our stay and we would return in a heartbeat if we could. Would have been a five star review if there was A/C but the cool ocean air is refreshing enough.

Highly recommended!

My husband, myself and 16 year old daughter had visited Cinque Terre before,; but this time my parents also travelled with us so we were looking for accommodation that was easily accessible. Camere Franco ended up being very convenient - right in front of you as you come out of the train tunnel with no hill to climb whatsoever - but it was also so much more! Our triple share room was massive, with its own huge dining/living room and balcony overlooking the main street and the hillside beyond. It was also exceptionally clean and well cared for, with a lovely marble staircase and quality furnishings. But the best part was our host, Franco, who greeted us with a toast of limoncello and was so friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. Even though the rooms were above a restaurant, we did not have any trouble with noise and even though we found we liked some of the cafes and restaurants down the street better, it was still an easy walk home after a day of trekking and a few too many celebratory wines with dinner. We really can't recommend Camere Franco highly enough for value for money, location and comfort. Manarola is also the best choice of village to stay in currently; at least until Vernazza is fully functioning again after the devastation of the recent floods. The fact that it is any easy 10min walk back towards Riomaggoire for sunset drinks along the trail or to have one last walk along Via dell Amore in the morning before you leave; or in Summer (as it was last time we visited) the best village for a dip in the protected rock pools; makes Manarola a great base for exploring the most magical and unique part in all of Italy. HINT: Don't try to drive to Cinque Terre. Leave your car in La Spezia or Genoa - trains run frequently and it's only two or three stops - very straightforward and easy to do.

Room Tip: Ask Franco to put the heating on if staying in the cooler months, as our first night it was a bit ch...

We weren’t sure what made our stay at Camere Franco so relaxing & pleasant. Maybe it was because of the tasty home-made limoncello that Franco greeted us with. Or, perhaps it was because it’s in Manarola, which has a mysterious way of concealing its beauty (we’ve run into a few speedy tourists who took the train there, got confused, and asked the TI office & others what really was there to see & to do in Manarola!). For sure, we loved our outdoor private terrace right above the main street (we were able to do some light laundry that took only one night to dry, & also did some people-watching!), and we enjoyed the simple life there. There were probably only two grocery stores, and a handful of restaurants…BUT each of those restaurants offers plenty of good food!! We actually found ourselves keep coming back to Trattoria e Locanda Il Porticciolo in Manarola.

Yes, Camere Franco is just right above a restaurant at the end of the tunnel from the train station (you won’t have trouble finding this place!), but the train noise is not that noticeable. My husband & I likened the train noise to a faint airplane noise that flies high above our neighborhood at times. It was the street noise (from the restaurant below, or from the people yelling on the street, etc) that could be bothersome at times. But hey, if you walk around all day like we did, then have a nice dinner with wine before you go to bed, and close BOTH the first & second layers of your terrace door at night, I’m sure you’ll fall asleep just fine.

I was only a bit worried with the fact that Franco seemed to mix English & Italian in his communication to us, but for most part, he could explain the most important points in English well – so, in the end, the whole experience was actually kinda fun. Camere Franco is a spacious, clean & comfortable room at a very reasonable price in lovely Manarola. No coastal view from the room, but Manarola is so small that you can just walk to your favorite spot any time of the day & night, so why buy the view?
