“SEEDY”

Property was poorly maintained. A constant foul odor from the bathroom made the sleeping area unpleasant to occupy. According to the property manager this smell is a chronic issue. A poorly equipped kitchen, worn furniture, poor lighting and malfunctioning hot water heater rounded out the problem list. We left after four days of a planned seven day stay.

“Very Romantic & Relaxing”

We enjoyed our stay at La Lampara very much. There was a lot of climbing, but we both needed the exercise. At the end of each day, we'd share a bottle of Cinque Terre wine on the balcony and watch the sun set slowly into the sea. On more than one evening--particularly as the wine and lemoncino kicked in--we'd dance under a sea of stars. At night, we'd open the windows to our bedroom and let the sea breeze and the sound of the waves against the rocks below lull us to sleep. The amenities were fine and comfortable. The washer was a nice addition and got plenty of use from us. Beautiful locale and friendly hospitality from the local residents.

“Great View/Uphill Climb”

If you want a fantastic view of the ocean and Manarola this is a very good choice. Be advised that it is a pretty good hike up to this location.
If you are ok with lots of stairs and climbs then it is worth it. Our contact person met us at the train station and guided us to our apartment. While he was very friendly and helpful we could have used a written guidebook about the apartment like so many other properties offer. For instance it was difficult to understand how to use the newly installed clothes washer. Our contact came back over to explain it. The stove requires a match to light the gas burners.
Bedrooms are a little small and we had an ant problem that was resolved once we moved our bed away from the window and spayed with the insecticide that was available in the unit. We could have used a few beach towels to take to the swimming cove. None are supplied. We picked up a few things at the dollar store in La Spezia, just a few blocks from the train station.
We were glad that we had requested fans since the unit was not air conditioned and got pretty warm in the heat. It has pots and pans and dishes but no coffee maker. You might want to pick up some instant coffee at the little coop grocery store in the village.
We had also rented an adjoining property, IL Baluardo, for other family members. Be aware that even though these are in the same building they are not connected. Due to the wild geography of this area you must walk outside for about a block up and around if you want to get from IL Bluardo to La Lampara.
By the way we enjoyed two great dinners at La Scogliera and a fantastic lunch at Billy’s. Billy’s is a bit more expensive and more of a hike, but does a great job of gourmet cooking. Good service is not always the norm in this village but these two restaurants offered great food and good service. This was also true at the gelato store in the middle of the village up near the post office. Best gelato in the Cinque Terre and friendliest service. Also try to get up to Volastra, the village up in the hills above Manarola. Its a challenging but enjoyable hike.
