“Breathtaking view, peaceful surroundings, sad to leave...Definitely going back!”
Reviewed 19 July 2013 via mobile

We stayed at Vandiris, which is the newly renovated sister-property of Arpaiu. Our room was very peaceful with the sound of lapping water and an amazing terrace on the edge of the cliffs. We were surrounded by ocean views and saw a wonderful sunset from the the terrace every night...Sad to leave...Definitely going back!

I went with my mom and stayed at Arpaiu's "Vandiris #5". Though the owner had given us directions on how to get there (we had to find it ourselves and the key was on the door), we were still confused and got lost when we tried to find it, but fortunately a man saw us struggling and helped us. It was difficult to get oriented to the place, but that's probably the same with arriving at a new place. Aside from the confusion, we were relieved when we found the room and it was easy to get in (she will give you a code) and find our room. Our room was clean and very simple, but had a spacious bathroom, a mini-fridge, and a hot-water kettle. There was no coffee, but there was tea.
The balcony was small, but had two chairs and a small table—which we finally concluded on the last night that our balcony was the best place to relax :) The restaurants are quite pricey and touristy, so we were much happier when we bought whatever we wanted from a mini-market and had a meal while chilling on the balcony. The balcony and the view was probably the best part of the room. True that you can only see a nearby hill, the train station, and the sea, but there's no other buildings blocking your view and you get a lot of privacy. We walked through the other towns, but felt like our balcony really was the break we needed, because it was just so peaceful. If you want to see the sunset, just come down from the B&B (as the front faces the other way—out to the ocean, while the B&B kind of faces to the side...but you'll still get a huge view of the ocean. an even better view). Though you won't face the sunset directly from your balcony, you can still watch the sky changes color—from blue, yellow, orange, to pink and purple.

The one downside to this is that you won't get WIFI in your room. You have to sit on the stairs, or just go down to the first floor, where there is a table. It gets stuffy, so we found it better to go sit outside on the steps to use the WIFI. Often, the WIFI won't work either, so that was quite annoying, because we really needed it to contact our family.

Sleep quality was fine, but sometimes you can hear the trains. Didn't bother us too much though.

We didn't meet the owner at all, actually. We were supposed to go to the office to pay on the second morning, but we ended up waking up too late and the lady had already left Manarola—but left a note saying we could go pay the next morning or just leave the payment in the room. You can always call her though, if you need help.

Overall, it was a great stay :) We only stayed two nights, but that was enough to feel the magic of Manarola :)

Room Tip: Get our room—#5. We believe we had the best view. The floor below us had a balcony too, but I think...

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Arpaiu, it was excellent. We spent the first two nights in one room then had to switch on our third night due to room availability, but we knew that in advance so it wasn't a problem at all. The owner was more than accommodating, and even let us hang out in the common room and store our luggage for several hours after we had checked out and while we were waiting for our train. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and have excellent views. It was a highlight of our trip to Italy, and we would stay here again in a heartbeat. We look forward to returning one day.

Room Tip: We spent the first two nights in the Ondina apartment and just loved it. Our third night was in Zigu...

My wife & I stayed at this guesthouse in May in the Aargan room. This room proved ideal because it is adjacent to the front door (no more steps!) and the views of the coastline were magnificent. The room itself is on the small size but spend most of your free time upstairs on the balcony anyway. Debora, the host, is easily contacted by email, gave us directions, etc and is present most mornings. Manarola, to us, was the pick of the villages. It is big enough to cater for all tastes but small enough not to be over-run by too many day-trippers and walkers. It is a pity the walk to Riomaggiore is still closed (and will be for some time judging by the extent of the damage) because that would have been a very pleasant walk at twilight. There are plenty of restaurants in town for breakfast and dinner, not all open every night. The walk from the station with the bags might appear daunting at first but the views are well worth it, just don't leave your wallet in the room at dinner (don't ask!)

Room Tip: The internal staircase is narrow so choose either Aargan or the other room on the entry level

If you plan to spend some time visiting the villages of Cinque Terre, the "Arpaiu" in the village of Manarola is a great place to stay. It is easy to catch the train linking the villages and also allows great access to the hiking trails. The rooms are very fresh and clean. It was wonderful to sleep with the window open to the ocean breezes and surf sounds. We enjoyed visiting with other guests and appreciated the "help yourself to tea" set up on the patio overlooking the ocean.
Our hostess was very warm and friendly and even offered to do our laundry for us. We loved the local community residents and their history. The scenery was beyond our expectations.

I don't have a tremendous amount to add to the previous posts other than to add our verification that this is a great place to stay in the Cinque Terre. We stayed in the Mea room and as others have shown, the view was incredible and the bathroom was incredible. The location is great! Tucked away above the city but an easy walk down to the shops, restaurants and train station. I don't think you are going to find a better value in Manarola. We would HIGHLY recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to the Cinque Terre.
