“Book Early! Wonderful Hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2014

The Arpaiu is great for a more independent traveler. We accessed our room ("MEA") with no problem following the simple directions Deborah had sent us. Our room was clean, efficient, with a wonderful, unique bathroom and a priceless view.

Up one flight of stairs is a beautiful terrace with commanding views of the Ligurian sea. The included morning espresso with the amazing view is a great way to start the day. Free internet accessibility tops off the comfortability of the restful, peaceful terrace.

Deborah is a wonderful host, patiently answering all questions and providing valuable tips for hiking,
dining, and sightseeing.

Arrival in Manarola couldn't be easier. Once you reach the Manarala station, walk along the tunnel, turn right at the exit and after 30 meters on the right Via Belvedere begins. Walk along via Belvedere heading toward the sea. As you near the end, with the sea before you, on the right you will find "ARPAIU" (the last house in front of the sea). It takes about 4 minutes walking from the train station.

The location is amazing and makes up for all the minor things I will
Mention.

1. This is not a "manned" B and B. We were given an entry code via correspondence and the proprietor arranged to be there the next morning to accept payment. This worked fine for my husband and I but if you are after the more personal interaction this is not the right B and B.

2. There is not much that can be done about this and all CT is the same but it is at the top of either a giant stairwell or a long gradual
Incline (depending on the way you go) so be prepared to carry those bags.

But as I said the view is amazing, we were lucky enough to have a stormy night and got to watch out over the sea with rain battering the window. Simply stunning and unforgettable.

Other important information - bed was comfortable and room immaculately clean. Other guests rooms were far enough away so as not to interfere with us noise wise and did I mention the view (seriously you can circle your window on postcards taken From the water)

Oh and manorola is defiantly the best village to stay at :). I would book here again

The location of this property is amazing. The views from the window of the room and from the upper level balcony were stunningly beautiful.

The service, however, was not great. We arrived on a Sunday, and had been given instructions on how to let ourselves into the building. We did, and that was fine, and we saw our host the following day. She answered some questions for us, but on some issues, like which trails were open, she did not give us accurate information. She told us to email her if we had any questions. We emailed her about two things we were interested in doing. It took her two days to respond, and when she did, her answers were not helpful - one of them being that we should ask at the tourist information center at the train station. I think that the hosts should be able to offer some level of support to the guests, not just a place to sleep. In the end we left a day early, and were glad we did.

The location is unbeatable and the owner was extremely helpful in all aspects. There is a million dollar view....no make that 10 million dollar view from the terrace. Yes there is a climb up the hill to the apartment but you are on a mountain...they all have climbs! The apartment was modern, clean and good value for the location. We actually changed our vacation dates in order to get this apartment due to the rave reviews by friends and on line. It was the best 4 days of the entire 36 days that we spent in Europe as far as accomodations are concerned.

Room Tip: all the rooms are excellent and it does not matter which one you chose

My wife and I stayed in the room called Mea for two nights in October 2013 and it was awesome. The deck up top is absolutely breathtaking. We would settle in up there after a long days hike for wine with the sunset. The room is simple, yet everything we needed. The window from this room really offers an amazing view.....we kept it open as we slept at night. It's as if you caould almost spit into the ocean as you are that close. We ate at Billy's both nights....the pesto is to die for and the seafood sampler appetizer is a must. I think it was 15 plates in all! My wife and I are fit so we found the hills no trouble at all. We also hiked from Manarola to Monterrosso one day. It is not too difficult to do, maybe 5 hours total. We were tired by the end but it is a must do in our book. We would stop in each town and grab a bite or a coffee and then continue our trek....and if you want to quit at any point just get to the closest town and take the train back to Arpaiu. Cinque Terre is one of the simpler towns in Italy. It is very low key. We were tempted to stay in Vernazza but after visiting there and seeing all of the tourists we were SO glad we did not. We never spoke to or saw Deborah....didn't need to. Everything was perfect. There are 4 different rooms I believe and like everyone says, Mea is the best. I highly recommend staying here and unplugging from life.

Room Tip: Mea is the place to be....ask for this room. Also, unless you get there early you will need a reser...

Deborah really doesn't need another awesome review! However she deserves one, my husband & I stayed 6 nights in Mea room in September 2013, breath taking views, both from our bedroom window & from the fabulous community terrace. Sunsets are to die for, & best served with a glass if wine. Bathroom was very different, but in a good way, room has a little fridge, there are no kitchen facilities, but that really didn't bother us, there is a coffee machine, which we didn't use as it's a lovely walk down the hill to get a coffee. Deborah is lovely & very informative. We used the trains & ferries, all very easy. Do not stay in Manarola if you are not fit! The paths & stairways are very steep (great for working off all those carbs)! Arpaui is a little piece of Heaven on Earth. We would most certainly stay here again. I've given 5 stars for the ambience, views & Deborah's gracious hosting.

On our 2 week trip to Italy in October 2013, Manarola was our favorite stop. We spent 3 nights at Arpaiu, and we regret that we didn't plan to stay longer. Deborah was the perfect innkeeper with great suggestions for things to see in the area, dining recommendations, train reservations, etc. The village is small, but has so much atmosphere. Restaurants are few, but we found some real gems. Don't miss eating at Billy's.
