“Just what we were looking for”
Reviewed 13 January 2013

We requested the room called Sapore di Sole based on Trip Advisor reviews and were very happy. It was very small but we had a view of the sea and a balcony and it was very clean. The owner Barbara was extremely helpful and the restaurants she recommended (Ristorante Scogliera and Marina Piccola) were both excellent.

The pluses and minuses pretty much canceled each other out. We reserved the Sapore di Sole room, because we'd read it had a better view and was larger. The view of the sea was spectacular, but the room was so tiny that we could not pass each other, going around the bed. It would have been fine for one person. The furnishings were lovely, high quality, and artistic, but all the surfaces were covered with bric-a-brac, leaving us almost no space to put luggage. The tiny "wardrobe" was completely inadequate. The bathroom was gorgeous, and the shower excellent, and everything was very clean. It was also pretty noisy, between the noise from the trains below and loud people walking by, late at night. There was no breakfast, but instant coffee packets (!) and a kettle for hot water. We never saw the owners in the 3 nights we were there. We wished we'd chosen another place to stay, although it sounds as if the apartments are much better.

We spent our honeymoon staying at Alla Porta Rossa in the Creme Caramel accommodation. Everything about our stay was beyond perfect. The room had updated, nice features with daily cleaning. The kitchen was well-stocked. And, of course, the VIEWS! The view from the bathroom was more beautiful than most places could dream of. We spent so much time on our (HUGE) terrace, and even after an entire week, we NEVER got over the fabulous view. It has to be one of the best in all of Cinque Terre. We also really loved staying in Manarola. Orpheo, one of the owners (Barbara's father), was very helpful making us reservations in town despite the language barrier. When we arrived at the reservations he made us, we were given the best seat in the house and treated like royalty. The town is small enough to get to know the shops and restaurants and accessible to the other towns. I highly recommend staying in Manarola. The owners were accessible, friendly and helpful. I cannot say enough positive things about our stay. We dream of returning - hopefully sooner than later. And we would hands down stay at Creme Caramel again.

This little apartment was perfect-given that you don't spend much time at home-walking, swimming and eating out is so much more alluring-this apartment was perfectly adequate. A cosy big bed, a lovely view out of the efficient kitchen and plenty of charming Italian ladies all around who will make sure that you are well fed, watered and entertained.
Access is tricky-but that is the same all over Manarola-steep stairs lead to this little abode-so be ware if you're wobbly on the old legs.

The reservation process via email was sketchy. After a few back and forth emails, the owner went silent. A week later, I reached put again and suspisciously the room I wanted was no longer available. I could however secure a different room (Creme Caramel) at a higher price.

I didn't feel I had a lot of choice and had already decided on Manarola so reluctantly booked the reservation. Thankfully, the Creme Caramel exceeded my expectations. While we certainly paid for it, the room was delightful and the patio was HUGE.

We found the man (name escapes me) and woman (Claudia) who run the day-to-day to be charming and unlike other posts, were not offended that they didn't speak fluent English. We were clearly told ahead of time that we would need to pay in cash so we were prepared.

All in all the Cinque Terre is amazing, Manarola is the perfect size (not to small/not to large) and our accomodations in the Creme Caramel turned out to be terrific!

We had a little apartment next door that is run by Alla Porta Rossa. The service we got was excellent, from the moment I made contact with them to enquire about availability. They stayed in email contact, answering any queries in a very helpful way. They met us from the train and showed us to the apartment, taking plenty time to tell us about the village. Manarola is amazing, the most romantic place I've ever seen, all tiny alleyways and arches, clinging on to a sheer cliff down to the clearest blue sea you can imagine. It's busy during the day with walkers and tour groups, but after six pm they all disappear and it's a quiet little village with amazing restaurants and lovely places to sit and stargaze. The apartment, Bianco Lilla, was spotlessly clean and quite well equipped. Lovely view out over the village. I would highly recommend this village and this place - if the apartment is anything to go by, the B&B will be excellent too.

We first stayed in Blu Mare in May 2012, and it was so good that we then came back in September 2012 and stayed in Raggio and Blu Mare for our honeymoon. Both Raggio and Blu Mare are great, although if you prefer privacy then I would go with Raggio as Blu Mare can be a bit exposed. Blu Mare is a bit bigger though. Barbara the manager is professional and extremely helpful, and she runs an exceptional business. If you are looking for views, a good kitchen and bathroom and an excellent host then you can't beat Raggio or Blu Mare.

Room Tip: Raggio or Blu Mare = both great
