There's really only one main drag in Manarola and near the top of the city lies the Church of San Lorenzo. He was one of the first Christian martyrs. He was barbecued. At one point, he told the Roman guards to turn him because he was done on one side.
The church is tiny but there a few very old pieces of art and a picture of Saint Lawrence's martyrdom adorning the ceiling. Like the Temple of Minerva in Assisi, this is a very quick and worthwhile glance.

It is a small local church with a 1977 organ that looks usable. Worthy the visit if you are in the city

Tucked away at the top of Manarola is this tiny church. Our B&B Da Baranin was very close to the church so we would wake up at 7AM to the beautiful bells of San Lorenzo.

Serenity and location, after all the pomp in Rome, we felt it was built for the community rather than for the church.

We didn't find it a steep walk - and visited this church a few times during our stay in Manarola. One morning we entered the church and we had the delight and privilege of a gifted soprano singing AveMaria accompanied by an organ. The church was empty but for 1 or 2 locals. We later discovered the singing was in preparation for a wedding later that day. Very beautiful - and in a very special atmosphere.
