My family drove into Manarola and parked at the top of the hill. The B&B provided great directions for arriving by car, but we would not recommend arriving at night We did not have the "issues" that a few other reviewers had in hauling luggage up the hill. Regardless, you should know when you visit the Cinque Terre that there will be climbing involved regardless of where you sleep. Beign higher up certainly provides the best views!

The room was modest. We had a double bed and 2 single beds so there wasn't much more room left. It was clean although it looked more like a college dorm room with a pretty rose on the wall. It was located close to Billy's which was a very good restaurant. The B&B breakfast was good but nothing special.

To sum up, we did not go to Manarola for the room but for the beautiful town and views. The room did not detract from our experience and met our needs. In other words, it was average which was fine in this instance.

We stayed here based on the feedback from my brother-in-law who visited the place over a year earlier. We chose the self-service apartment and were very impressed with the building. The bed was comformatble, the place was clean and well-equipped and had a great view over the town. That said, this place is a long way above town so be prepared for a hilly walk - that's what you sign up for when you go to Cinque Terre.

We were hopeful about this B&B when we booked last minute and it was the only place available in Manarola that could offer us a crib, which we do appreciate. The climb leading up to the hotel was tough but doable - we did it with a large suitcase, two kids and a stroller. The good news is that it's right near Billy's Trattoria - delicious food and beautiful views with indoor or outdoor seating (reserve ahead of time).

We did not enjoy our one night stay. Our main issue was the mold in the bathroom. You could see it on the walls and ceiling, but far worse was the smell. I couldn't stand being inside the bathroom, it was such a strong smell. I smelled it from our bed throughout the night and made for an uncomfortable sleep, knowing that we were all breathing it in.

The light wasn't working above the bathroom sink so there was only the dim light on the fan which was noisy in the middle of the night. They did not supply soap for the shower. They didn't make up the single bed for us, even though they knew we would be using it. There was no one to help us after 4pm - they were gone for the day. Be nice to have a contact phone number.

Another big surprise was the very steep, spiral staircase inside our room. There was no mention of these stairs when I booked, even though I had been questioning the stairs leading up to the room (we were able to leave our stroller at reception). My two-year old's single bed was on the top floor. I would never have booked this room if I had known about the stairs - they are far too dangerous for a toddler, especially in the middle of the night. My husband had to sleep on the single bed, and I slept with my son in the double bed on the main floor.

A nice plus - there is a balcony off of the top room with chairs and a beautiful view of Manarola. There is also a kitchenette. Breakfast selection was okay - it was nice to sit outside and enjoy the views.

Room Tip: Ask for a room without mold in the bathroom. If you have a toddler, ask for a room without stairs.

We apologize that you havn't been fine here with us. We apologize as well that the cleaning women forgot to fill in the shower/shampoo dispencer. We'll be more carefull. The spot of mold in the bath is very small as shown in your photos and about the light on the mirror I think that you didn't find the switch that is located beside the mirror.
We are very sorry about the problem with the bed as well; if we are informed we can provide a rollaway bed or a baby cot at the same level of the double room if required. We probably assumed (it happens very often) that the little child wanted to sleep in the double bed with the parents. Many times the bed at the top floor is very required for the guests that want more privacy and the don't want to stay all in the same room. We can change bed's arrangement at any time of the day if the guests are not pleased at the arrival. In think that in this case we misanderstood the necessities of the guests and we apologize for this problem.
Steep stairs are very common in Cinque Terre area, inside and outside of the houses, and we provide a lot of information about this situation in our web site. We invite our guests to ask all the information they need about stairs in our B&B expecially if there have young chieldren.
We always provide 2 mobile telephone numbers (Sara and Silvia) included in our confirmation message together with the number of the office; the same numbers are written on the front door of the lobby; they are available 24 hours every day for any necessity or emergencies.

We spent three nights in Manarola at the end of May, this place is wonderful, very scenic which we enjoyed from our little balcony at Da Baranin.

The room was huge and was more than adequate for three female friends, shower was powerful and everything was very clean and modern.

Lovely wooden shutters and a view of both the mountains and the sea, idyllic.

Don't be put off by the by the hike to reach the bb, this is where the best views of Manarola are had and lets face it after all that lovely bread and pasta the walk could do our waistlines some good!

Room Tip: Request an apartment with a seaview the little extra cost is worth it

I wouldn't pay any attention to the last review... this place is wonderful!

We arrived via the train to Manarola and yes, if you do this, you are going to experience a hefty upward walk through the town (no stairs yet at this point, all paved street) to get to this B&B and many other destinations in Cinque Terre for that matter. If by car/bus, then you have a short downhill walk and one set of stairs to the B&B. We are young and fit, but were loaded down with luggage (too much shopping), so it took quite a good effort from us! But hey, you don't get amazing terrain like this and expect a flat walk!

Check-in went smoothly and all the staff were very friendly. We had reserved the superior room with sea-view balcony and I suggest it's worth every extra penny! Not only did it have a view to die for with a comfy lounger to take it all in, but the room was huge!!! Felt like we had our own little apartment in paradise.... clean, nicely decorated, lots of room to relax, super comfy bed, good size bathroom, ample storage/clothes hanging area, heat & a/c, a safe, fridge, and kettle. There was no wifi in our room, however the signal was good in the common areas (lobby, breakfast room & terrace). We had a key if ever needing to go into those areas after hours, so really no problem here.

Breakfast was good and just what we needed to start the day. There is plenty of seating outside on their beautiful terrace as well as additional tables indoors. The morning sun hits their terrace, so we never felt the need to eat inside. There were breads/croissants, cereal, meat & cheese, yogurt, and fruit. There was also a kind lady on duty ready to whip up a fresh cappuccino, espresso, coffee, etc. She even offered to prepare breakfast to go when she learned we would be departing on an extremely early morning train.

Every restaurant we ate at was great... Trattoria dal Billys was especially memorable. A very short walk from the B&B, amazing sea-view terraces compounded with an extensive menu featuring local seafare. When they placed a complimentary bottle of Limoncino on our table, I knew this place was not one to forget! (or the opposite depending on consumption!)

Can't say enough about the area... so scenic! We did a few of the hikes: the super easy one from Manarola to Riomaggiore, Manarola to Volastra (straight up hill), and Monterosso to Vernazza (up and down along the coast, challenging!). Of the 5 Cinque Terre coastal towns we visited, Manarola was definitely our favorite.

Would definitely stay again and recommend Da Baranin to others!

Room Tip: Upgrade to superior room. View and size worth it!

Spent 2 nights in manarola in April 2012. One of the most scenic place I've seen, the hiking trail was awesome and trattoria dal billys was one of the best restaurants in Italy. In regards to this place it was well below average. Steep stairs, average beds, small, wifi only in the lobby shuttle from the train station was a joke. Breakfast was poor with limited space but the staff was nice.

Room Tip: I'd checkout other places but this one is fairly cheap and very close to billy's restaurant.
