“Fantastic rooms, great service”
Reviewed 18 June 2013

We travelled as two couples, and booked two rooms.
One was a studio unit, the other was an apartment/suite with separate living room and kitchen.

Both rooms were excellent. They each had their own theme, both matching the amazing Cinque Terre region. and were very clean. the beds were comfortable and the air conditioning worked well in the heat.

The staff were friendly, cheerful and helpful, with a good level of English.

The breakfast was good and large, and the ability to eat out on the terrace was the icing on the cake.

Perfect b&b, a bit of an effort to get there if you arrive by train, but well worth the effort. There is a shuttle by the way. Great friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast, nice room. We had the top appartment an when it's a bit stormy it can be a bit noisy. All the villages in the cinque terra have railway stations, but not every train stops in Manarola. If you take the train schedule into account when you make travel plans that should not be a problem. A very good little restaurant close by!

They weren't lying when the instructions from the website on how to get to the B&B said it was a "five minute good climb". It's not so bad once your suitcases are up there but goodness gracious me - it was hard work. That said, it is a nice place to stay. The staff were lovely. The room was simple but did the job. There was a kettle and a fridge in the room which was handy. Our room had a weird smell to it, almost like an insect repellant kind of smell, which was off putting. We also had a hard time working out how to unlock the door - sounds stupid but the key was a weird one.

The location in terms of Cinque Terre as a whole was fantastic. Manarola is definitely the loveliest of the towns. The breakfast was fantastic, and if it had been warmer weather I'm sure the balcony looking over the hills and vineyards would have been great.

I would recommend this B&B.

room itself was functional and clean. long climb up from the train station, but the view from the balcony as we sat and drank wine more than made up for it. on learning that we're leaving early to catch a train, breakfast was thoughtfully packed for us, so that we could have something on the go, great service!

Da Baranin B&B was a great place to stay once you had got there! It definitely is a trek up the massive hill, but we had no regrets once we got into our room and saw the view. Manarola is definitely the favourite of all the towns. Our next favourite was Vernazza.
Our only regret was being unaware that so much would be closed due to it being their off season. The first night there were only two restaurants open in the town the next night there were none. As we didn't feel like catching a train to La Spezia we resorted to buying a couple of things from the very small supermarket. Da Baranin had a wonderful breakfast in the morning and great coffee (best I had in Italy) but they have no other meal facilities. We had a very large room with view. The bathroom was quite tiny, but we managed as it was just the two of us. The tea and coffee making facilities and fridge were great.
Would definitely go back to the Cinque Terre but recommend to anyone going to find out when their high and low seasons are and beware very little is open in the low season. Views were still amazing though and got some great photos. Free wifi was available but only in the reception area. It would have been nice to have it in our room but didn't really matter too much.
Would love to come back and stay here again someday and see the area when it's in full bloom in the warmer months.

We stayed in Da Baranin for two nights in October 2012. The only room with a sea view that was available had two twin beds, but it was comfortable. The room was quite small like most places in Cinque Terre, but it was functional and clean. We were able to store our 2 big suitcases, 2 small ones and a backpack. They even made the beds and cleaned the room during our stay unlike other places we stayed in Italy. We arrived in Manarola after sunset by train and Sylvia had arranged for someone to meet us at the station and help with the luggage - this was a big help. From the train station, the climb to Da Baranin is fairly steep and while for the most part, you could drag the luggage, there are some 50 steps or so to get to the office. If you're reasonably fit and are travelling light, this is quite OK - we enjoyed this especially after a heavy meal and when we didn't have the luggage. If you have much luggage, make sure you request Sara/Sylvia for some help. The breakfast was typical continental fare - the fresh coffee/cappucino that Donatella made to order was awesome!! Though the breakfast area opens at 8AM, Donatella was kind to make me a cup a little earlier on one day. WiFi is in the office room and they give you a key for 24 hour access - worked quite alright. They also stored our luggage on the last day after check out. Overall, we had a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view!! If you need space, ask for a superior room or an apartment. And, pay by...
