“Great place, great view, hated to leave!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2011

We stayed in Mediterraneo 2 for 4 nights with another couple in early July. The apartment has a very modern feel to it and with A/C, clothes washer (and ample line drying space off the balcony), dishwasher, flatscreen TV, free wireless internet and generous bedrooms by Italy standards, we had all the comforts we could have asked for. It is a bit of a hike up a long brick path (or several flights of stairs if you prefer a more direct route) to get there from the main street, so moving in/out takes some effort (especially in the July heat!) but the view from the balcony toward the water and the town and terraces above is very nice. Manarola feels less over-run with people than some of the other towns (Riomaggiore was a zoo and Vernazza and Monterosso also were very busy). The alimentari on the main drag is a great place to grab food and drinks and there is a Coop (more traditional grocery store) a little further up the way as well. The chocolate croissants in the local bakery are to die for--get them early in the morning while they are still warm! We at twice at La Scogliera restaurant--the waitstaff were super friendly and the food very good. Arbaspaa was a great host and provided all we needed. The wine and oil tasting in Groppo (small town just up the hill from Manarola) was very fun and informative and worth the money and effort to get there (you can walk or take the bus up the hill).

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in May. It was our first two nights in Italy on the way to Lucca, Chianti, Venice and Paris. In retrospect, probably our favorite night of the trip was our second night when we made pasta and drank local wine on our balcony at Mediterraneo 1. The balcony is as large as the apartment, and has a great view of the water in one direction and the town in the other. Everything about the apartment was clean and well done -- and the small washer/dryer was a surprise bonus. Highly recommend staying in Manarola and at Mediterraneo 1. Don't miss taking the ferry over to Portovenere -- cool to see the towns from the water, and Portovenere has great views, food and things to see. It would make a good alternative to staying in the Cinque Terra, with day trips to the Cinque Terra towns on the ferry. The rental agency Arbaspaa was very helpful all the way along, from the first inquiry through our stay (their office is in Manarola). The only possible negative that you should be aware of is that the apartment, like almost everything in the Cinque Terra, involves a lot of stairs. Just no way around it. It was challanging at times, but on the other hand it helped balance all of the food and wine.

This apartment was the highlight of our trip to Italy. The staff was so helpful we did not want for anything. The view was exceptional. We had cocktails on our balcony in the evening then went down to the wonderful restaurants for dinner. Very centrally located to the local train, and to the hiking trail between the other villages. Be sure to bring your walking shoes and a smaller suitcase. Lots of stairs, but worth the climb! Will return again!

We stayed here in "Mediterraneo 1" for our honeymoon and were not disappointed. The only negatives are the looooong trek up with your luggage and then a steep staircase (which I did read about beforehand), and there didn't seem to be enough outlets to use some of the appliances such as the iron and the kettle. Also could not plug in the lap top, but that wasn't a big deal.
The view is breathtaking, we spent a lot of time on that balcony out in the sun to sunset, eating and drinking lots of good food and wine. Definitely use Arbaspaa agency, they are very helpful! They also offer great tours such as wine tasting which we did as well.

This was our second journey to Manarola and if we return, I will hopefully book this place in a heartbeat again. Manarola is our favorite location and indeed, this apartment has one of the very best locations in this charming community. The other reviews do it justice. The balcony is a wonderful place to watch the world go by. Know that you will have to carry luggage up a long incline, before desending 44 stairs to the apartment, so pack light. There is a washing machine in the unit; an adequate kitchen and small bathroom. You don't book this apartment for the amenities and size, you book it for the view and location. You will not be disappointed.
The internet speed was great and also free. The management company that booked the property was very responsive and easy to deal with. I do recommend dealing with them and would use them again.

Room Tip: For larger groups, book both units.

Our stay in Manarola was absolutely brilliant! Firstly - the town itself. Magnificent views, quaint buildings marching up the hills and such a special atmosphere. Secondly - the accommodation. Modern, clean, spacious, fully-equipped, 2 bathrooms, full kitchen, internet, and then those fabulous views to the boat harbour and up the coast from the balcony. Exceeded all our expectations. Then to be met at the station by the owner who was so knowledgable, friendly, considerate and helpful. It all added up to a memory that will last.

A group of 4FunAussies stayed for 4 nights/3days in this 2 bedroom apartment that was well presented, laid out and with modern fittings . The location was ideal that overlooked the square and water. Time was spent on the balcony with red wine & cheese.
Manarola is excellently located with food & wine stores, PO and easy rail connection up and down the Cinque Terre coast.
This place is highly recommended.
