“Nice Hotel in Ideal Location with Italian Spunk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

Baia is one of only hotels in the Cinque Terre right across from beach with tables beachside for drinks. Parking is diagonally across street which allows you to drop off luggage fairly close without lugging it a few blocks. This is huge!! Train station is a few doors down which is wonderful for getting around the Cinque Terre. Hotel itself is clean and many rooms have views. Our room looked to the side and was large compared to other rooms we booked on our trip. Breakfast eating area is very pleasant and looks out across street to beach. Staff is very nice but yes...older lady at front desk can seem brusque but is just a character and with a sense of humor if you make a little effort. And yes...if you are on third floor there are 65 steps to climb, because third floor is really fourth floor and rooms have 12' ceilings. But reviews complaining about a weak blow dryer...my 5 star hotel in Carcassone was punier...and small rooms that are not clean are simply not true. Baia is run by an Italian mama who melts when her granddaughter comes in and younger hotel staff/family are very friendly. My cell phone wouldn't work because of steep cliffs...I suppose some would even blame that on the hotel...but it is the Cinque Terre for heaven's sake! If you want to come to the Cinque Terre, be prepared for steep hills and historic buildings stacked into the hillsides.

Room Tip: If want a view of beach, book very early and not on a weekend. Side rooms, however, are quieter and...

Position of the hotel is fantastic and so close to the station with heavy bags it is so easy to get to. But very expensive for what you get. Hotel is basic and clean and the young staff are friendly. But the older lady who runs it is very rude and inflexible about anything. We stayed four nights and one day they completely missed cleaning our room. No apology or offer of anything to make up for it. Yes the views are wonderful but the room was tiny. We couldn't lay out 2 suitcases and when it was cleaned they missed many things. We loved the village but felt the hotel was not good value and others would be better.

Room Tip: Front rooms overlooking the water have the best views but are very small. Don't know if others a...

We had spent the sunny and warm afternoon on the beach had been back to the apartment showered, changed and looking for a drink before selecting a restaurant, we stopped under the umbrellas opposite the motel and spent a fantastic hour or so watching the people and very much enjoying the cold drinks an attentive waiter and extensive complimentary nibbles. A great way to end a day at the beach.

Monterosso is very busy once the tourist season commences. This hotel is in an excellent position across the road from the beach. It isn't cheap but then this is a tourist hotspot. The walk to Vernazza is well worth the effort. Restaurants are within easy reach. The staff were helpful.

Fundamentally everything about the hotel is basic but fine - the room, bathroom, breakfast, lobby etc. But the rates are very high for this standard of accommodation, simply because of its location in CinqueTerre. It is in a beautiful spot, across the road from the beach, a couple of minutes walk from Monterosso train station to the left, and a couple of minutes walk from The Giant to the right.
If you want to stay in CinqueTerre you're going to have to pay high prices for basic accommodation. If you want to pay less you'll need to stay further away. The train running through the towns runs quite regularly, so this is an option.
I only had one night to maximise time in the area so I just accepted the overpricing on this occassion, but if I'd had longer (or if I return) I will stay further away.

Best town out of the cinque terre for sure, has a great relaxing feel to the place.
The hotel room is clean & comfortable, staff friendly enough but I would say maybe a little over priced in comparison to other cities in Europe. But hey it's a small coastal village so you will always pay a little more for places like this where ever you are in the world.
There is two beautiful restaurants on the road out front of the hotel, defiantly recommend the seafood pealla!
To the person who mentions their disgust in not being able to use the lift (it's for disabled people & for your luggage) I wonder why they have even came to this town as the main attraction is hiking through the different coastal towns... Surely a set of stairs isn't that bad?
