Not sure if that is true but, in any case, the ancient stone sculpture is mighty impressive.

Hiking north from here we ascended to see the ruins of Sant' Antonio church overlooking Monterosso. It's a fairly difficult climb but the view of Cinque Terre from up there is amazing.

Having seen this from a distance on my former visits I stayed for a few nights very near it so saw it more often and at closer inspection. it is an amazing scupture and must have been really commanding in its original format [it has lost arms during the war].
It stands at the end of the beach and is like a friendly talisman when you are on your way home in the evenings.

Loved the backdrop of the sea and coastline. Enjoyed the view from the beach bar. Will hike around it and explore some more today.

At the north end of the beach there's a large armless and trident less statue of Neptune created over 100 years ago with a history worth checking out. (WW II Allied bombers knocked off his arms and trident and winter storms took their toll but he's still a very dramatic sight to behold).

This statue looms proudly over the sea on the right end of the monterosso beach, it's a beautiful sculpture. It's true that it has worn a fair amount (who would expect it to be in pristine condition?!) but it's still an amazing tribute to the power of sculpting.
