My husband & I visited Cinque Terre Easter weekend and we had a very tough time finding a hotel! Thankfully Diego came to the rescue! He was super efficient with answering our emails right from the start and the efficiency continued through our 3 day stay there. The hotel is clean and pretty albeit not very fancy. However it has everything you may need including wi-fi and a nice clean room with a safe. The breakfast was lovely and had a nice homely feel to it. Everything about the hotel was very warm and welcoming. It's conveniently located not too far from the train station and just a few steps away from a great pizza place that's right next door. Would stay here if we visited Cinque Terre again.

Before my stay began at Hotel Punta Mesco, the hotel staff (Diego) contacted me to ensure that I knew how to get to the hotel from the train station. The directions were specific and easy to follow. Once I arrived at the hotel, we were checked in by a very kind young man that spoke English well and answered all of our questions. The staff went out of their way to make our stay in Monterosso a good experience. Our three night stay at the Hotel Punta Mesco was the best service we experienced in our two week stay in Europe. I would stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat if I were going to be in Cinque Terre.

The room here wasn't fancy but it was clean and comfortable. The staff were very pleasant and the young man who checked us in was particularly friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with plenty of options. We left our luggage until mid afternoon but thought it a little odd that it was just left in the corner of the breakfast room. Then we had a minor panic when we returned to find the hotel locked up and we had turned in our key so could not access our luggage; fortunately someone from the staff arrived a few minutes later to let us in and we made our train with time to spare. Overall, loved the authentic small-town feel.

We stayed here for two nights in April 2014. The staff was amazing. They spoke good English, gave us a map to be acquainted to Monterosso and to the Cinque Terre, answered all of our questions, and even were so kind as to let us borrow a corkscrew for our wine. The breakfast was delicious. It was a good variety of fruits, breads, juice, and coffee drinks--very yummy cappuccino. The whole building was very nice and clean. Our bed was comfortable, and there were extra pillows and blankets. The building has heat and air conditioning. The room was about the average size of a typical European hotel room. The room had a small patio attached. It did not have a view, but it was nice to have the extra space with a table and chairs to have a glass of wine or hang wet bathing suits after the beach. There was free parking directly across from the hotel where you park in a field, but there is a gate that closes for your security. The location was amazing. You are just a minute or two from the beach and the town. We walked around Monterosso and took a ferry to the other 4 towns of Cinque Terre easily from this location. The only thing that I can critique was that you could lightly hear the train go by. It was like a whisper that you could hear, but we were still easily able to nap and sleep. I would definitely recommend staying here!

We rented the third floor apartment for 5 (a very reasonable €310) with two of us in the twin bedroom, two in the double bedroom, and the fifth on the single bed in the large room between, which also serves as kitchen and dining room and has the bath for the double bedroom. The beds were comfortable, at least for European B&Bs, with nice linens and colorful spreads and blankets.

The bath off the kitchen has a separate makeup room with a pocket door leading to the toilet, bidet (so civilized), and walk-in shower, which is unusually roomy. Hot water is plentiful (a dedicated tank is situated in the bathroom) and perhaps too hot (it heated quickly to 110/40 degrees!). As usual in Europe, little room is available for your toiletries, but the built-in hair dryer actually is powerful enough to dry long hair.

The lodge is located on a quiet street (I had to remove the battery from the wall clock because the mild ticking kept me awake) less than 50 yards from the beach (although not advertised as a view room, we could see the beach if we looked to the left off our very nice double balcony). The view directly off our balconies was of an apartment building, although at least the laundry drying on their balconies was colorful. We did not miss an elevator as much as we expected, especially because the owner, Roberto, carried our suitcases for us.

Breakfast is included and is more than adequate for the Continent. I especially liked the tankard of Dunkin Donuts-type coffee, a sign of the many American visitors. Roberto's wife, whom he met in a local restaurant, is from San Francisco and helps him run the place.

While the bath towels are of the waffled dish towel-thin variety, there are lots of them, they are replaced daily, and can be dried on the heated towel rack, which also is very handy for the clothes you may rinse out at night.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms on third floor have a side view of the sea.

We stayed at Punta Mesco for three nights. The hotel is very clean, serves a very nice breakfast and has an excellent staff. We were greeted by Manuel upon our arrival and he was awesome. He seemed to genuinely enjoy welcoming and assisting guests (unlike some of the hotel staff we've encountered in our travels) and offered suggestions for dinner that were spot on. Punta Mesco is close to the train station and we found the location to be very good. If we return to Montorosso, and I hope we do, we'll be staying at Punta Mesco. Good value, good location and the very kind Manuel.
