Firstly the owners are lovely, very helpful and gave us a warm family welcome. Could not fault them at all. Breakfast wasn't great, but may suite many others. We were hoping for a bit of old Italian hospitality that I believe comes from most places on the area, but it sadly just felt a bit outdated rather than old world charm. The location was probably our biggest disappointment. The area felt like a caravan park, and for us, it was our least favourite area of the region. The airconditioning stopped working on the last night, and the fan didn't really offer that much relief. I think hotel 5 terre would be fine with for families, but not really for a young couple.

This is a very nice hotel in a good location, close to the beach in the new part of Monterosso and an easy walk from the train station. Staff were very nice and very helpful. Rooms are comfortable, spotlessly clean and nicely furnished. Breakfast was great. Our only criticism is that there were no tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms and if we wanted a cup of tea, we had to pay 2 euros in the bar. Otherwise, highly recommended.

Superb service. Helpful staff. Very little English from the staff but communication is not hard. Several British and American tourist stayed here during our stay. Conveniently located to the train station.

(Third block, heading west from the train station)

We had difficulty finding a room in Monterosso as we were there over along weekend, which we didn't realise at the time of booking. However, we were quite happy with this hotel. We were upgraded to a larger room which was on a corner with sea glimpses. It was clean and quiet. The bathroom was big but the toilet was a bit cramped and there was nowhere to store our toiletries. Luckily we had plenty of room on a table in our room. The hairdryer was absolutely useless and there was a sign stating that the use of other hairdyers is not permitted.
The location was good, not far from the station, but at the opposite end of town from the old town so not so convenient for restaurants there. Having said that, it's only a 15 minute pleasant walk and there are some decent restaurants nearby anyway.
Service was helpful but not all staff spoke English. No laundry service, we had to drop it off at the laundry ourselves and it was delivered to the hotel. The breakfast, included in the tariff was good.

This is a very comfortable, relaxing place and the hotel staff added to the experience. Domenico, the manager, was so hospitable and seemed to work a 24 hour day. He deals with so many people of different languages and tolerates the intolerable ones well. We loved him!

The main floor is very nice and open with one large and one small lounge. There is a small bar with beer, wine and local cocktails. The dining room is spacious and the complimentary breakfast is excellent. One of the two patios has a fountain.

The rooms are modest and showing signs of age. We felt that Monterosso al Mare is a place that a person could escape reality and/or justice dating back 1000 years. However, the secret is no longer safe as we encountered more Americans in this tiny secluded place than we did in London, Paris or Milan.
