“Great stay ”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014 via mobile

The owner Andreas and his daughter Maria were great hosts- friendly and very helpful with local knowledge (mainly Monterosso related).
Big and clean rooms. Basic breakfast (fruit, bread, cereal, hard boiled eggs). Sea view rooms (either at front or side) were perfect. I didn't see inside the back facing rooms but they face onto a garden. Only rated 4 out of 5 because it was euro 170 per night which was a tad over our budget but worth the money as a great introduction to the Cinque Terre.

La Spiaggia is in a fabulous location with great views of the beach and cliffs overlooking the Ligurian Sea. It is a short walk from the train station and right on the beach.
We found the staff helpful recommending restaurants and hiking paths, and Andrea (the owner) is a character and will take a personal interest in making your stay enjoyable. The complimentary breakfast is good (not the most elaborate we had seen in Italy, but nonetheless a decent variety of pastries, meats, yogurt, and fruit) to start your day.
We would stay at Hotel La Spiaggia again if/when we are fortunate enough to return to the beautiful Cinque Terre.

We stayed for two days at Hotel Spiaggia. We received at 10 Euro discount off one day for mentioning the Rick Steves book. The hotel is well located across the street from the beach, next to wonderful restaurants and just a 3-4 minute walk from the train station and tourist information office.
The staff was very helpful and greeted us with a complimentary glass of wine each when we arrived. They gave us great restaurant and activity suggestions and schedules for the train and boats.
The room was nice with a very large balcony which we enjoyed. You can choose a room facing the water or a room not facing the water but with a nice balcony for the same price.
The breakfast which was included was very complete. The breakfast room was well stocked with a variety of foods, nicely decorated and well attended and cleaned by the staff. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again. Mikys restaurant - the one next door ( for evening ) and the one across the street ( beach side ) is good for lunch

My sister stayed here last year and she highly recommended it so I contacted the hotel by email and booked it. Maria was very helpful in getting it booked for our dates and she actually offered us a room with a large covered terrace - which we loved!! We stayed 4 nights in room #23 on the first floor. It had a king bed and a beautiful view of the coastline and the beach right out front. We especially enjoyed sitting on the terrace at sunset and watching the small towns in Cinque Terra sparkle. The terrace had a comfortable couch and 2 chairs plus a refrigerator!! This hotel is soooo convenient to the train station and we liked being able to walk right out front and and find restaurants and wander on the beach. Can't beat the location!! Everyday we would hop a train or boat and go to another of the 5 towns. What a cool experience. Since I got back, I have recommended it to several other friends and 2 of them have already made bookings!! You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the water!!

This hotel is a great family owned hotel to stay in. My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and we loved it.

Location:
Location is hard to beat. It is right off the beach and easy to reach with only 3 minutes walk from the train station making it the perfect base to explore Cinque Terre.

Room:
We were assigned Room 21, a front sea view room with no balcony (which I was informed at booking). Bed was 2 twin beds put together that makes a king. Room was very small, with barely any room to store our luggages, but that was expected so no complaint there. I was worried that it would be noisy given the location of our room, but the only noise I heard at night was the soothing sound of wave crashing. By morning time there were some traffic noises but not bad at all.

Bathroom:
Is it weird to say that I like the bathroom the most? It's because it's updated with modern amenities and sparkly clean!

Wifi:
Free wifi for guests but very spotty in the room.

Customer Service:
This hotel is family owned and run. The owner (unfortunately I didn't get the name of) gave clear instructions on how to get around CT to get the most out of the view. Also he gave precise directions on how to get to/from Portofino which we followed to the T without any problems. He also gave excellent restaurant recommendations.

Breakfast:
Typical European continental breakfast with cheese/ham platter, yogurt, fruits, dessert tray, pastries, hard boil eggs, and juices and coffee.

Right on the beach at Monterossa al Mare, just a few steps from the railway station, the location of this famous hotel is very hard to beat. The rooms are simple, and so is the breakfast. Staff are helpful and il patrone has many a story to tell. This is a good base for your exploration do the Cinque Terra.

I found La Spiaggia in 2006 in several guide books. i was delighted to find I could have a view of the sea in Cinque Terre. The hotel overlooks the Ligurian Sea and is really close to the train station. There are terrific hikes out of Monterosso to the other towns as well as Levanto and to Bonasolo and Framura. Then, I found the best part of the hotel is Andrea Poggi and his interesting family. Andrea is so knowledgeable of Cinque Terre and its history. He is so generous and is also great about guiding you to restaurants all over Italy. His daughter Maria will take care of your reservation and will go out of her way to make sure every detail is correct. Maria's friend, Francesca will also make your stay so nice. Isabella Poggi is in charge of housekeeping and the generous breakfast served each day. Angelo Poggi is often around to assist with luggage. You may want some great gelato from Isabella's daughter's gelato stand in the old part of town..
By the way, there is an Il Fornaio a few steps away as is a small grocery which is great for buying water and picnic supplies for the hikes.

Room Tip: A Sea View is always nice
