“Amazing Terrace”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2014 via mobile

Lovely hotel, wonderfully located right on the beach. It's not in the old town, but only 200 metres from the train station which is probably the closest you'll get anywhere on the Cinque Terre. We specifically asked for and received a double room with a huge covered terrace looking over the beach, which was lovely for drinks each evening. The room was quite simple, but clean, fresh and airy.

The staff were really helpful and friendly. They helped us with how to get around in the most efficient way, provided directions to the best look outs and gave great advice on where to dine in Monterosso and the other towns.

It really made our trip to be coming back here at the end of each day.

My wife and I just returned from a stay here . We traveled almost three weeks through Italy. This was a return visit, we stayed for three nights .
The place is GREAT , rooms were cleaned every morning by a nice friendly staff. The room had a refridge, a/c ,nice size bath and ocean front with a balcony. The breakfast is also excellent, the owner supplies fresh fruit and vegetables from his garden. The owner,Andrea is very knowledgeable about area restaurants , attractions, and things to do. He lived there for many years - he knows what he is talking about. Listen to him , let him guide you on where to go and what to do and see , you won't be disappointed. The first night with Andrea's guidance we dinned at a beautiful restaurant in a nearby hotel- we loved it. On our last night Andrea took us out to dinner in nearby Corniglia , what a great experience. Just spending time with Andrea, talking over dinner was truly a memorable experience.
If you have a problem with this hotel and it's staff , you will probably have a problem wherever you stay.
Thanks Andrea for a great and memorable stay.

We stayed in four different hotels during our stay in Italy and this was our favourite. The hotel is lovely and bright with a real holiday feel. The location is amazing-right in front of the beach and lots of beach side restaurants and gelato bars. The old town is just a short 10 minute walk away.

We were two friends and we had a garden view twin room that had a large balcony complete with two sun loungers. The room itself was quite small but perfectly adequate. The bathroom was very modern with a very powerful shower- really invigorating after a day on the beach or a hike through the trails.

All of the staff at the hotel were really friendly and helpful providing advice on the trails and printing off train timetables etc. Andre even gave us a bottle of wine from his own vineyard when we were leaving!

The hotel was quite expensive but all the hotels seeed to be expensive in this area. We were very satisfied customers!

We spent 1 night just passing by from 1 city to another.

Only 1 good thing in this hotel is location and first lady who help us to check in. She was very nice!

But rest was a nightmare.

Minuses:

- we were placed in the room in just renovated apartment next to main hotel building without AC! Just loud fan. Small, smelly, hot room without any supplies for 100 euro per night ???

- there are no normal set of kit for bathroom. No water, fridge was not working, no any mini bar provided.

- it is crazy noise and vibration from train pass in by.

- we were asked to check out at 10.30 am! (Worldwide check out time is 12). Excuse was: they have to pay extra fee for reception (reception by the way - was relative of owner))) we were asked to pay 30 Euro per hour for extra time. So we had to pack urgently and leave.

- can pay for hotel only by cash!

Pluses:

- view from room is great!

- hotel is on the first line next to the beach and sea;

- great breakfast and service during breakfast;

Dear Customer,

referring to your letter I would like to comment your ideas about our place.

First of all as you say the room was just renovated and you saw it when you took it, you saw the size, the fan and I don't know what smell you're talking about, unless you smelt the scent of new furniture. Same "problem" as A/C, being the room just new, the whole system wasn't ready yet. But we didn't promise a room with it.

In every room we supply bath towels, soap and shampoo. All our fridges do work, and you are right, no minibar provided. We had to stop doing that because most of the people emptied them and when checking out they said they had drunk nothing.

I don't know where you have found out that chekout time is at 12.00..that might be in China where there is cheap labour.

In Europe every hotel can choose checking out time with the permit of the Tourist Board.
Unfortunately we cannot allow later checkout for free, because our cleaners they leave at 1pm and after that we cannot have our room cleaned unless we pay them extra hours. Nothing to do with reception.

On the front desk there are two signs stating that the hotel only take cash but also travellers checks and any currency of the world that we exchange at bank's rate, no commission.

Talking about trains, Liguria is 250 km long and every city is cut in two by the railway line from the Tuscan border to the French one.

It looks as though your ideas are a bit confused because you start with saying "Horrible service" and then you end with saying "Great breakfast and service".

I read all your reviews out of 21 of them you gave 7 bad ones, which is one third.
We have on Tripadvisor 511 reviews, only a few are not nice.

"Nightmares"? No, Sir. In this country we do not have terrorists.
"Price"! 100 Euros instead of 170 which is real price for that room.

Regards,

Andrea

Our second trip to Monterosso w/ two young children (7&9) - this time we spent 6 days and tried a private apartment that the hotel rents out - absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! Francesca and Maria were a huge help both before and during the trip, helping w/ planning our stay. The apartment has three bedrooms, top floor (though a few stairs to get there, pack light!), kitchen, bath, 2 terraces - views of ocean in front and hills behind. The apt is in a residential building, so you really feel like you are living in the town. Just in front are the beaches, short walk to train station, new town restaurants and the old town. Huge space for the money, will definitely stay here again when we return!!!

Room Tip: The apartment is several blocks from the main hotel in a residential building - top floor - read, lo...

We spent three days at this hotel in July 2014 and richly enjoyed the experience. We had relied on the Rick Steves recommendation and we weren't disappointed. We had a room with a view of the ocean and small terrace and it was spectacular...like, pinching yourself spectacular to make sure you're really sipping wine on a balcony overlooking the Ligurian Sea and beautiful coastline. The young women who ran the main desk were wonderful, knowledgeable and helpful, and the owner, Andrea Poggi, was just as described in the review...a larger than life personality who knows the Cinque Terre like the back of his hand and is always ready to recommend a great place to eat. We hated to leave, but will hope to return and enjoy the hospitality of La Spiaggia again!

Room Tip: Try to book early enough to get a sea view!

We were fortunate to stay at La Spiaggia for 3 nights but we hope to return for a week next year. Andrea and Maria were so awesome. The rooms are small but really well done and they have amazing views. The location could not be better We drank Andrea's wine, had cantaloupe from his farm at the great breakfast and listened to all of their advice on restaurants sightseeing, etc. This was a way better experience than the 5 star hotel on Anacapri where we had been prior. My husband and I loved it as did our 4 sons. Monterosso was such a darling town and we can't wait to return. Wr loved La Spiaggia. My sons loved their balcony!!
