Great location in Riomaggiore. Old building with many stairs, no elevator. Staff helpful, room would be overpriced in any other location, but probably on par for Cinque Terre. Deserves the 2 star rating.

Room Tip: Price is negotiable in off or shoulder season.

We stayed two nights here. Very casual and great staff. This place has internet and close to several restaurants. The room was bigger than expected and it even had a refridgerator to store snacks or wine. Not too far from a gelato place up the street. Close to the train station and the staff help to carry your bags up! At night the office/breakfast room turns into a coffee/wine shop. Lovely place to escape everyday life.

We stayed two nights and found it very comfortable, much better than expected. The lay-out of the hotel (being in what appears to be an old apartment building?) is a bit unusual but our room was large and clean, the bathroom was clean and modern, the beds were comfortable, we had a cute little balcony and most importantly - air con! The breakfast was adequate, they have internet/PC facilities and it's very close to the tunnel which leads to the train station - about a 30 second walk to the tunnel from the hotel and then about a 2 minute walk through the tunnel to the station. Would definitely stay here again. We drove - if you drive, be sure to call ahead and arrange parking with the hotel. It was a bit confusing figuring out the parking situation - as you can't really drive in the town and there are a couple of barriers to navigate - but it was fine in the end.
P.S. The restaurant La Grotta, two doors down, is excellent.

My partner and I stayed here for two nights in July after Albergo Barbara (in Vernazza) unexpectedly canceled our reservation. Considering this was the only Cinque Terre hotel that still had vacancies I was a little concerned about how it would turn out. It was a bit expensive, but, altogether, was quite a lovely choice. The room was clean and spacious and very close to the train station. Also, the staff was very friendly and even watched our bags for us after we checked out so we could do some more hiking! Breakfast was delicious too! They do have free wi-fi, but because of the set up of the hotel (main office is in one building and the rooms are scattered about in other buildings) you may not be able to get access in your room. Riomaggiore was a nice town too, and not as congested with tourists as Vernazza or Monterosso.

Location wise, the place is really close to the train station. We checked in and luckily our room was on the first floor. No elevators at this place. Make sure you either have a carry on size luggage or backpack. They also had other rooms with more stairs. They provide wi-fi but only by the reception area. No wi-fi at all in the rooms. Breakfast was croissants, yogurt, ham, salami, cheese, some pastries, juices, cereal, coffee or cappuccino and fruits. The receptionist(s) were all pleasant, helpful and friendly. Our room was kept clean and they came to fix our beds everyday.

As for lunch and dinner. We went to the grocery store named COOP. We purchased some fruits and snacks. The tap water in Italy was safe. We drank it and no problem. As for restaurants, make sure you ask if they have cover charge and is the cover charge per person. We had dinner at this one place, up the hill from our hotel, and it said that they charged 1 Euro. Well, that is good. We thought it was 1 Euro for all 3 of us. When we received the bill, it was 1 Euro PER PERSON.

We tried another place for dinner in Riomaggiore. This restaurant is on the way to the beach and by the small boats. The name of the place is Dau Cila Bar Ristotante. This place is located on Via San Giacomo, 65. We did not eat at the restaurant but did a take out. Our daughter was hungry so we ordered pasta with olive oil and parmesan cheese. When we got the pasta, it was in a container and a good serving size. They were also nice to let us borrow their fork and return it the next day. The pasta was 5 Euros. We got a lot for 5 Euros. So, we went back to this restaurant and ordered pasta with lobster for two people. This was 36 euros but it was GOOD. Again, we took it to go. Then the following night we did the same and ordered to go and ate up the stairs by the bench. The salad was a good serving size. We had a view of the crashing waves.

As for the beach, it was okay. It was rocky. When the waves come in, it brings back the rocks and when it his your ankle, it hurts. You can get a cut too from sharp rocks. That is what happened to our daughter.

Now to go to the other 4 towns, depending on the weather, get the train pass for 10 Euros per person. The pass is only good for one day. Weather pending, it would have been nice to take the boat or ferry from town to town. With the train pass, we visited the towns and hopped back on the train to go to the next one. Monterosso has a nice beach. We had lunch in Manarola and gelato. We bought gelato at a place in Manarola called Enrica. They made homemade gelatos.

To go back to Riomaggiore, we walked from Manarola through the Via Dell'Amore. It was a 20 minute walk. Nice view of the ocean.

This hotel was in a good location overall. Riomaggiore is the first Cinque Terra village coming from the South. Its a short walk through a tunnel to the more active side of Riom; the hotel is just a few feet from the tunnel exit. There are several restaurants nearby (fancier&expensive, or more diner like). Check in went smoothly, the room was a typical small Italian room, but decore was pleasant. There were three of us, we had a double bed and single. The room was divided by a large dresser/vanity. Breakfast was simple but sufficient. The staff was very help with our questions and getting internet access.

Some of the other CT villages are probably a little bigger and have more activity, but the train makes it easy to get from village to village. The hikes up in the vineyards are priceless -- fantastic views.

Room Tip: The lower rooms have fewer narrow steps to get up, but have ceiling noise from the room above.

We stayed here for 3 nights while exploring Cinque Terre. Our room overlooked the main "street" of Riomaggiore which was fun to watch the comings and goings. It was close to restaurants, the harbour, and 5 min walk to the train station. Friendly staff and tasty breakfast in the morning. The shutters and windows were really good at keeping out any noise from the street below. Comfy bed and exposed beams in the ceiling which added to the experience of staying there. We'd certainly recommend this hotel.
