Choosing to stay at La Scogliera is one of the best decisions my wife made for our trip to Italy. Before going, we spent quite some time doing research and debating as to where to stay. We're so glad that we chose Riomaggiore out of the five towns of Cinque Terre and picked La Scogliera. My only regret is not being able to stay there for a few more days!

La Scogliera is located right next to the harbor of Riomaggiore. The bedroom is spacious and tidy. It comes with a nice balcony and wonderful views of the sea (from the bedroom, the kitchen and even the bathroom). But what makes this truly a wonderful place to stay is the warmth and hospitality shown by owner Paolo, his mother Maria and his nephew David.

Before arriving, I was a bit worried about the location as we traveled with heavy luggage and I read from the internet that it takes some climbing to reach the place. But Paolo kindly arranged for David to pick us up at the train station (he had to work in another place that day), who helped us with the luggage.

We had an excellent stay at the apartment, which provided most of the basic necessities needed for a short stay.

Paulo went out of his way to help us in our last two days in Cinque Terre. We wanted to extend our stay at La Scogliera for two more nights but unfortunately the room was booked by another guest. Paulo took the trouble and found a nice apartment for us and he even carried all the luggages for us to the new place!

I cannot echo enough the positive comments of reviewers on this site about La Scogliera. My husband, son, and I, spent 2 nights here in June. It was our first trip to Italy and we fell in love with the Cinqueterre.

When we arrived at the apartment, no one was home but there was a note on the door telling us to go to the door above and ring for assistance. We did so and Guillermo greeted us warmly, showed us to the apartment and helped us settle in. The language barrier was no problem at all. The apartment is charming, clean, spacious, and very well appointed. During our 2 week stay in Italy, this was the largest accommodation we stayed in and was so warm and comforting - like home. The views from the balcony and 2 other windows are nothing short of stunning! We preferred this apartment over all other accommodations we had during our vacation.

Like others, we enjoyed being lulled to sleep each night by the sounds of the sea crashing on the rocks below. I agree that it takes a bit of a climb to get to the apartment, but it is totally worth it. Pack light and make the hike. You'll be glad you did!!

Paolo left us a bottle of his homemade Limoncino and it was so nice - such a friendly gesture. Each evening we were there, Paolo stopped by to talk to us. We looked forward to talking to him and learning a bit of Italian from him. We knew so little but he was patient with us. We enjoyed a lot of laughs and left feeling like we were family.

While we were there we visited 3 of the other towns of the Cinqueterre. It was very easy to go between them. The boats were not running so we took the regional train and it was super easy. We would highly recommend Riomaggiore as a "home base" to explore all the Cinqueterre has to offer.

We enthusiastically recommend La Scogliera to all other travelers. We would love to make a return visit and would love to stay longer!!!!

Thank you Paolo for your warmth and generosity. It was a pleasure to be your guest.

We stayed here for three nights in may and loved it . The view is spectacular, the flat is modern and well equipped with everything you need. booking was easy and the owners friendly. We sat on the balcony most nights before and after great dinners in the town . The perfect end to a day spent on the cinque terra trail or just hanging around swimming in the sea. We wished that we had booked longer as it such a beautiful place and the flat the perfect place to stay. Particularly loved going to sleep with the sound of the sea so close..
