Really nice, clean hotel in Riomaggiore. Really nice breakfast, rooms with a balcony, nice ambiance and friendly staff. Note that it is at the top of the big hill in Riomaggiore, which means an amazing view but a steep walk every time you return to the hotel.

Stay for 5 nights. Clean and quiet hotel in one of the less touristy towns of Cinque Terre. Bathroom was small but clean. Nice breakfast. Good Wifi. Some great restaurants in Riomaggiore. Be prepared to hike up and down the hill to get from the town to the hotel!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Hotel Villa Argentina for two nights in October 2013. Cinque Terre was one of the stops on our two week trip to Italy. We did a lot of research on the area to decide on the best town to stay in. We were deciding between Riomaggiore and Monterosso and had friends that had previously stayed in both towns so knew we couldn't go wrong. But we ended up deciding on Riomaggiore because we got such a good rate at the Hotel Villa Argentina. The hotel rates there were better than Monterosso. After visiting all five towns, it makes sense: Monterosso is much bigger and more touristy. We were happy that we decided on Riomaggiore because it's smaller and less congested at night after the daytime tourists have left. It feels like more of a local experience.

We arrived in Riomaggiore and made our way up the STEEP hill to Hotel Villa Argentina. We were told by the attendant at the train station that there was a bus that we could hop on, but we ended up missing the bus so decided to walk. It's a steep trek but well worth the view once you make it to the top. The staff at the hotel are friendly. The lobby is modest. We went up to our room and were not very impressed with the room itself. It was super small and the bathroom was especially tiny with a moldy shower curtain and a mildew smell. But when we went out on the balcony, we were blown away by the view! We originally booked an inside room and were happy we decided to upgrade to a balcony view. Since the rooms are so small, the balcony made all the difference in opening it up and getting some fresh air. Enjoying coffee in the morning sitting on the balcony was one of my favorite mornings of the trip. You truly can't beat the view. We were out all day exploring the five towns so didn't spend much time in our room anyway, so although the hotel itself is nothing to write home about, it was good for our needs and I'd recommend it to couples looking for a good home base for exploring Cinque Terre. We had a delicious dinner at one of the restaurants in the main square area (La Lampara) and loved the local small town feel. Get the pesto at La Lampara! Yum!

Tip: Get a room with a balcony and view, you won't regret it!

Room basic but clean and good wifi. Exceptional views from balcony. Fair breakfast but had to pay for proper coffee. Location is right at the top of town! All uphill and quite a hike so be prepared. Went in off season so a lot of things were closed, had to go down to town centre for any meal. Loved cinque Tierra but would stay in Manarola next time.

Yes, you do have to hike up the hill to get the view, but it is well worth it. The hotel has a balcony where you can have your wine/cheese etc and just chill and take in the view. If you buy the Cinque Terre Pass riding the bus up/down the hill is free, otherwise I think it is still very cheap. The bus stops outside this hotel. So take the bus on arrival with the luggage, as it is a very steep hill. We had a room with a view, so really enjoyed that. The room was okay, clean, small, but did have a lounge and a bed. Magic view from room. didn't spend that much time in the room, only for sleeping. Breakfast was good, with plenty of choice. Staff helpful. Their are some restaurants closeby, if you didn't want to walk up and down the hill. But most people are in the Cinque Terre for hiking so a little extra shouldn't be a problem. Wonderful spot, would definitely recommend and would not hesitate to come back again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view, well worth it, magnificent view.

We stayed for two nights while on a girls trip to Italy. There were four of us so we had the quad room with a double and bunk beds. The room was small and so was the bathroom but the balcony and view were great. Breakfast was nice. Just a warning, when they say to get off the train, walk through the tunnel and make a left up the hill they really should say mountain!!! Very steep ascent which might be difficult for some while pulling heavy luggage. We are four in-shape women and the purpose of our trip was to trek the Cinque Terre-so when I say steep I really mean STEEP!!! I'd ask the front desk for help with the luggage if possible. Otherwise, nice hotel for the price in the off season.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony.......

Room # 1 is the only room in the lobby, and the bathroom was covered in ants. We were moved for the next two nights to the second floor with a balcony that over looked the ocean and was excellent. They over-book and don't let them stick you in room #1. When I complained I was told that we would be evicted the next day onto the die walk with our luggage and nowhere to go! If you use a travel agent- have their home phone number and Email address before you stay here.

Room Tip: Don't accept room #1; it's an ant farm.
