Booking the room was extremely easy with Martha available by Skype and email. It was a little challenging for us to find on arrival as there was no number on the door and the sign on the door was subtle, so we spent about 20 minutes wandering the narrow stairs/streets around Riomaggiore! Fortunately when Martha and Leandro finally found us it was a relief to be let into the cool peaceful blue Maestrale room. We had suitcases and had been lugging them from train station to train station so it was nice to be on the ground floor, however you compromise on not having a balcony. The room is very spacious, the bathroom massive (compared to some tiny closets we had been in, in other parts of Europe!) It was very clean, and there was even a little drying rack outside the window. There's a helpful folder with plenty of local tips on where to eat and what to do (even suggestions for when it rains!), and we were provided with train timetables, ferry timetables and maps of the trails on arrival. We ran into Martha during our stay who recommended her favourite trails to explore. It is well located steps away from both the train station, marina and many delicious restaurants (all serving up the most amazing seafood pastas). Note that you have to go to the nearby hotel cafe to use the wi fi. Overall a very good room. Thanks Martha!

Stayed 3 days. Easily recommend this. Very clean! Great value! Everything we needed. Great location. The only thing it lacked was ocean view. AC worked amazingly well. We were requested to turn it off when we left, but this wasn't a problem. The room really didn't heat up much. Good hot water supply. Bed was acceptable. Fridge in room!

Also was really helpful that the owner met us at the train station so we didn't have to locate the place.

Also... Martha was easy to reach and quick to respond to emails.

Hey guys!
Thanks for taking the time to write us this review!
One question - Were you expecting sea views? I am very clear in all my emails that we are centrally located, but because of that, none of our rooms have sea views. I hope that you didn't feel that you were misled!
In any case, it was really nice meeting you both and I hope your wife wasn't too sore after that long morning of hiking!
Hope to see you two again sometime!

My partner and I visited the Cinque Terre at the beginning of September 2013. Our pleasant experience with the owners started the moment we booked the room. We were greeted at the train station right on time by Martha's brother in law, Leandro, and the room was just a short walk from the station. Not that Riomaggiore is very large, but the room was conveniently located near restaurants and a refreshingly short walk up the hill (we had just come from a lot of walking in Rome). We were provided with what seems every bit of helpful advice possible, and of course we loved the A/C. Can't recommend this place enough!

We (five travelin' females) absolutely loved our stay at Vento di Mare! Martha Wong, our hostess who speaks English, Japanese and Italian, met us at the train station and walked us the short distance to our rooms. She was able to answer all our questions about Cinque Terre--places to eat, important hiking details, train schedules, etc.-- and saw to our every need during our stay. We got the most out of our three days in this fabulous region thanks to Martha's superb customer service. Thanks, Martha!

Room Tip: The upstairs room has a great balcony for wining and dining.

We stumbled upon Vento di Mare by chance. Our initial preference was to stay somewhere which had a view of the coast but things were getting booked out pretty quickly. But boy did we get lucky with Vento! From the first mail I sent to Martha to our entire stay in Rio - we never looked back. Martha is so helpful and fun! I loved Cinque Terre but if I had to really think about it, the credit goes to Martha. From managing the car parking (and trust me, car parks are not easy in Cinque), to the luggage to the rooms and to planning our itinerary and booking the bestest restaurants, Martha did it all. And if you get lucky, you ll meet her two lovely children. Not to forget Leandro who also manages the place and is extremely helpful. The rooms are large and fitted with A/C and are tastefully (if minimally) decorated. Its a new place and Leandro and Martha maintain it well. The location is brilliant too! Right in center of the town and close to the exit for either the marina or the train station. Cant recommend this place enough.

Room Tip: There are three rooms and all are nice. The one on top has a balcony but if you have issues climbing...

This is a wonderful place to stay as you can tell from all of the other reviews. The location is great. It is very close to everything. The balcony is very nice and peaceful. What makes everything come together to make it such a great place to stay is Martha and her energetic and phenominal customer service. Anything you need before your arrival and during your stay she will do everything she can to ensure you get it. She helped us find a place to park that was just a short walk from the room in addition to suggesting places to eat, trails to hike, and many more things that helped make our stay wonderful. I recommend continuing up the steps past the rooms because all of the way at the top are some benches where you can sit and enjoy a great view of the town, the sea and sunsets. I definitely recommend staying at Vento di Mare. You will not be disappointed.
