“Amazing view, cozy cottage, great service”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

We stayed for two nights at Il Borgo di Campi in August of 2012. We rented one cottage for two couples and it was perfect. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms with a kitchenette and great patio looking over the ocean and hillside. Our first night we purchased food and wine in town from the local market and cooked our own meal, enjoying it on our patio. We got a gorgeous sunset with rainbows!!! The second night there we ate at the restaurant on the property. It was one of my favorite meals! Fresh mussels and fish! So good. We had excellent service from the staff and owner. We were carrying all our luggage in backpacks the hillside was no problem for us but I could imagine with rolling luggage it might be more difficult. You also have to take the local bus from town to the hotel as it is not in the center of Riomaggiore. We also caught the local bus the day we left to get to the train station. The stop was a short walk from the front of the hotel.

We stayed in a very cozy apartment with a lovely view, however there was approximately 200 steps down to our room from the street. The walking up and down wasnt too bad, but the first time down to the room with heavy luggage was a struggle. And you are on your own no baggage service on the way down, but on the way up there is a luggage trolley that will cart your luggage to the street. The rooms are air conditioned and have a kitchenette if you choose to use it, no wifi in the rooms but its available at the bar/restaurant. The food at the restaurant was excellent but closed on monday. If you plan to travel into cinque terre you will need to take the bus into riomaggore (2 euros per person 1 way), the last bus is at 8pm and there are no taxis from riomaggore. It is also possible to drive into la spezzia and then take the train into the towns of cinque terre. Cats and dogs wander around the hotel also. Overall we enjoyed the views and our stay, loved touring towns of cinque terre.

Very rude owners, they fight with guests
, so rude can't believe they are in business.
View is nice looking out to the ocean but doesn't capture the essence of cinque terre
After dark no view to enjoy.
Shower and bathroom so small, I'm 155 and couldn't comfortably fit into shower
More than 3k away from nearest village
No air conditioning, it doesn't work at all
Were to stay two nights checked out after one night ( luckily got our money back)
Worse experience ever & we are very well travelled
Wifi only works in restaurant badly not in room

Room Tip: Forget this hotel, not a good place to enjoy cinque terre. It's just too far away from the vill...

Pros: AMAZING view and setting (every lodging accommodation has access to this view), delicious restaurant overlooking the coast with personable service (we ate dinner there), the community room with TV was a plus because it allowed us to watch the world cup finals :) They also make their own wine and olive oil on site, which we gladly enjoyed and supported with purchases. They have scooters available for rent for 35 euro for a full day, which ended up being a great option for us, given the limited bus schedule (read below).

Cons: Our room (Arnica room) smelled strongly of mildew, was very small, and did not have many options for ventilation. Front desk staff (I think the owners of the place) were unfriendly and seemed uninterested in our questions.

Other things to consider: The hotel is a 20-minute bus ride from Riomaggiore's town center and the bus runs only every hour and stops running at 8 pm each night. It's also worth noting that in order to access any of the rooms you need to walk up and down a steep set of about 200 stairs. It was fine for us (minus the effort of hauling our suitcases) but would be a real barrier for anyone with a disability or limited mobility. It is, however, this staircase that allows for the breathtaking views that welcome you outside your room.

Overall, you are paying for the views and access to an incredible setting. Don't expect over-the-top accommodation or service, or easy access to the five villages.

Room Tip: All rooms have a beautiful view of the ocean. We do not recommend the room we stayed (Arnica) becau...

This property is beautiful - stunning views of the sea and coastline, gardens and vineyards throughout. The staff, especially Linda (and Marco in the restaurant), were incredibly accommodating, friendly, and helpful. You must be prepared, however, if you are arriving by train as we were, of the difficulty of getting to this spot. You can take a taxi from the La Spezia train station for 30 euro, which is what we had to do every time, as the bus from Riomaggiore was always full and impossible with luggage. This place would have been much more convenient if we had rented a car. Also, once you are there, it is MANY, MANY steps to the apartments. So if you carry a lot of luggage or are not into the exercise, you shouldn't stay here.

That being said, its isolation is what makes Il Borgo di Campi so unique and lovely. You get to escape the craziness of the crowds in the villages of Cinque Terre, the restaurant serves great food and you can eat on the terrace and take in the view. The fact that they are apartments with a kitchenette is also convenient as well, and that along with their price point made it popular with young travelers and families.

It´s a shame that we spend only one night. I think the best benefit you get by stay two or more nights...There is a lot of stairs before rooms - we don´t get room with garden front of,but named garden was near...few meters from the room.

Staff was friendly and helpful.

P.S. Check first the room and after then carry your heavy luggage or ask service :-)

Interesting Hotel!

Easy to access and nice to stay. The best views to sea some hundred meters betow. Every room has its own garden, where is good to sit in chair, meditate and look into dark sky and sea below. The best what to do is take a walk down by stairs and rocks early morning before hot sun to sea. You will remember this walk forever! The path is steep and narrow and quite dangerous in some places, but if you rich the water you will have excellant swimming and if you are back in hotel, you can feel yourself a hero! It takes about 40 minutes to rich a water and about 1 hour back.
