“Perfect location”
Reviewed 30 August 2013 via mobile

Firstly people should should know that Affittacamere Patrizia is not a hostel, but an office that manages a series of apartments around Riomaggiore. I stayed in an 8 bed "dorm" which was actually an apartment with 8 beds. The location was perfect, right on the harbor, with a balcony that we could sit and eat and enjoy the views. The kitchen was mostly well equipped and the place was clean and provided a towel and the air con worked.
It's a bit of a hike from the station to get to the front office but the whole town is a giant hill so it's not a huge deal (as other reviewers have made out).
The wifi works only at the office reception and the room has no lockers but they were the only 2 things that can be improved.
Definitely recommend!!

The office of this hotel/hostel is not where your room will be and is a huge hike from the bottom. If possible it is probably best to leave your bags at the bottom with a member of the group because your room will probably be at the bottom anyway. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The rooms were small but not uncomfortable at all. We stayed in a triple with sadly no ocean view. There is no AC just a fan but at night it gets cool so its not an issue in the summer. There is also no wifi in the rooms. The free wifi is only in the office which was the only downside. Also CASH ONLY.

Room Tip: ask for ocean view.

Myself and my girlfriend are backpacking and as a priority are booking places that are are short walk for us as we are not overly stong and have quite heavy bags. Seeing the address of this hotel and thinking it was accurate was one of the worst mistake we made all trip. Upon arriving at the reception and having to pay straight away (they do not have any credit card machine so ensure your carry enough cash) we were told to 'follow my husband he will take you'. With absolutely no clue how far or where we were headed we started following the man.
When entering the town of Riomaggiore look for the clock building on top of the cliff, that is approximately half way to where our room was. This hike accompanied by the 30 degree heat and absolutely no assistance with any or our luggage caused me (a relatively fit girl) to pass out and fall on the gravel.
After eventually reaching our room we were staying in the side room of someone's house, their conditioner kept cutting out and the 'free wifi' was only available within 5meters of the reception, a long walk away.
Overall the place was clean but not worth the money, we paid a lot for a good location and ended up miles away.

After reading some of the poor reviews, we were worried upon arrival to the office. We were led to an apartment with sea views, in a prime location and could not believe our luck! We were expecting a dank hostel, but had a balcony and spacious room for 5 girls with a kitchen and very clean bathroom. I highly recommend this hostel, ESPECIALLY if booking during the season!

Hostel overbooked, forcing us to move to a room a few blocks away the next morning (not a huge deal). We waited and waited to be able to switch rooms and fix their mistake, and we finally arrive in a somewhat decent room (looks like someone's spare bedroom with 6 cots). Found out there are no locks to the room's door, or even to the front door of the house! I went to speak with the manager who told me to learn how to read better (though English is MY native language, not his). He yelled and screamed at me, telling me he didn't care if I wrote a bad review online, his hostel would always be full anyway. Show him an empty hostel, and that customer service really DOES matter!!!! We ended up leaving Cinque Terre and paying for another hostel to stay at even though we'd already paid for this one.

Apparently there are different apartments rented out by this agent, so other experiences may vary greatly. I was worried reading bad reviews, but it's high season and we didn't start looking for hotels until most were filled. We booked a private room for 4. The person who showed the room was pleasant, but kept one of our passports as security until we paid cash the next day. The room is by the harbor. There were a number of stairs to negotiate on the way to the building, but I later found an easier way to walk there (via the ramp by La Lanterna restaurant and across the school playground). The room is actually only two flights up, but the stairs are steep, making it more difficult to climb, particularly with suitcases. The room was clean, with a decent toilet, sink and bidet in one room and a decent shower in another room (with hot water but iffy water pressure). There is a mini-fridge, a kitchen sink and 2 glasses, 2 knives and 1 plate. There were pillows, sheets, towels, soaps and outlets. There's no air conditioner, but there's a rotating fan. There are 4 beds (2 put together as a double) and little extra space inside. It was uncomfortably hot to sleep until about 2am, then it was fine. The best part is the porch. It's big, with a table and chairs and a view of the harbor and the hills. It was delightful to sit there and have a "Rear Window"-type experience in the morning and to relax there at the end of the day.
