“Nice Hotel, shame about the location...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2014

The hotel is located very near to the ferry ports, about 15 minutes in a taxi from the airport and just over a mile to the nice area of the town with all the restaurants and bars...However the taxi driver did warn me not to walk out at night as the area is not very nice. However the Metro was 5 minutes walkaway during the day which was easy to use and cheap and then I would recommend a taxi if you return after dark.

The staff in the hotel were really good and helpful in every way possible.

The hotel has a bar for evening drinks which is a nice touch.

Breakfast was exceptional with plenty of choice and makes for a good start to the day, it was also free with my booking which is always welcome.

The rooms are very well presented and generous in size with a lovely king size bed, so slept very well. I thought I would have heard the road directly outside on my window, but no the room was lovely and peaceful.

My only issue comes in the bathroom with the walk in half glass partition shower. The water just sprays out into the bathroom leaving the floor like a skating ring even with the bathmat in place. But then so many hotels are doing this style of screen now its a frustrating niggle with me.

Overall a good hotel which I would use again, just beware of the location after dark.

If you are travelling with a car, this hotel has it's own parking area with easy access to the hotel. The city center can be reached easily with metro or bus. Rooms are basic but the beds are comfortable. Good breakfast.

We stayed there with family as we wanted to visit the Aquarium.

1st point is that you need to drive to the aquarium and park there. On the map it looks like it is on the other side of the port, but it is actually quite far - too far to walk with kids. Alternative is bus. NH hotel is right at the aquarium.

2nd point is that Genova area around aquarium is nice and modern (though completely MISSING traditional Italian cities charm), but the area around Holiday Inn at first glance is quite depressing. On a second note, actually the hotel is right across international ferry port. And if you are ok with street noise, and are on a higher floor, then you will see the port and HUUUGE ferries right in front of you, which is quite a premium view. Just that you will also see how "visually challenged" the whole area is with a lot of old concrete and steel around.

However, if you have kids they will like the ferries. My son could watch the ferries for an hour as they load and unload cars, people on the decks, smoke coming of the chimneys ... and waiting for the ferry to leave the dock.

The rooms are newly decorated and attractive (on a higher side of average Holiday Inn). The staff is in line with expectations. Breakfast is proper (as in avg. Holiday Inn).

Overall nice stay in a hotel, but missing Italian city charming views. Aquarium is great - but otherwise think twice before you come to Genova.

Room Tip: in front of port and higher floor - view on the ferries but noise from street. in front of the port...

Not the best location, need to jump on the metro to explore, couple of close restaurants but not huge choice. Hotel very busy, staff work hard, rooms above average with good harbour views of the never ending ferries and cruise ships. Bar is tiny but works.

A very clean and great value hotel. 5 mins walk from metro station which is great to see the sights in Genoa (not many tbh but good for a couple of days stop over - oh and be warned down the small streets in the town centre are lots of lady workers!). Opposite hotel is shopping centre that has shops, cafés and a McDonald's. Parking is fine even though there is a sign to say no space (don't know why!)
Breakfast was very good and lots of choice, busy though and seemed a little under staffed.
Would stay here again if in Genoa and would recommend to family and friends.

There were 8 of us (6 adults + 2 kids) on a big VW Van on a week-long roadtrip through Europe. Holiday Inn Genoa was the 2nd of 4 hotels, and for us, the best of them. Its a modern/new hotel. Staff were friendly and efficient, the 3 rooms were spacious and comfortable. The family room was really big consisting of 2 rooms connected by a hall and toilet/bath. The toilet/bath were also spacious and good. Parking was available, and there was free acess to WiFi. Breakfast was good. We even had dinner in the hotel which was really good!

Arrived after traveling more than 36 hours for a cruise leaving Genoa the next day. I had booked the hotel based on information from Cruise Critic. Only one person was working the check out and I had to point out that I had already prepaid our stay in a junior suite.
Got to the room quickly and it was wonderful! Large and airy. Coffee and tea making items supplied as well as a mini bar where you could put your own items. We were traveling with our 16-year-old son and his sofa bed was already made it. Not like what we would consider a sofa bed in the U.S. but more like an opened futon. Even had a dining table for three as well as additional seating and a king bed for my husband and myself. Very modern decor. We all slept very well. Were given robes, slippers also. Loved the balcony!
Went across the street to the Coop and picked up some bread, parmesan, prosciutto for dinner. Beautiful with the church bells playing and the French doors open!
Would highly recommend this hotel for others. It cost us 30 Euros (10 per person) to be dropped off at the front door of the hotel (black Mercedes too). Going to the port, while you can see the ships (and you are located directly across from the ferry terminal, it would be too far and complicated with luggage to attempt. Going to the cruise terminal, it cost 5 Euros per person. The hotel has to call a taxi for you and he was there in less than two minutes, probably quicker.
Also in the Ferry Terminal where the Coop is located, there was a shopping mall with restaurants, souvenir shops, clothing stores, shoe stores, a travel agency and even a Game Stop and McDonalds.
The next morning, my husband went out for a walk while we were still sleeping and found the farmers market for the lack of the correct Italian word. Amazing fresh croissant including chocolate (yum). Four for 1 Euro.
Definitely would stay here again. Compared to other cities in Europe, this was a bargain.
