Yesterday evening after a tiring flight, I was ready for a good meal and was rather spoilt for choice within a short range of my hotel. I studied a couple of menus before deciding on the Ristorante Trieste and am I glad I did. As a vegetarian, lots of local fish dishes are of no use to me but I had a wonderful spaghetti pesto, followed by a delicious desert and half a carafe of red wine. Even the pot of tea I ordered afterwards was "spot on" which is unusual on the Continent. I enjoyed everything about it and the staff were so friendly I decided to go back again this evening and I wasn't disappointed.

When we arrived to genoa, we were exhausted from a tiring journey and disappointed by our hotel but the trieste reminded us why we wen to italy in the first place. the food was unpretentious, affordable and the pizzas were great. The crust of the pizzas was resembling short bread in a very pleasant way. The service was pleasant and welcoming. The restaurant was full of italiennes which is always a good sign. Don't go there if you are expecting anything fancy.

This restaurant was close to our hotel, so we ate there the first night we arrived in Genoa. My husband had the gnocci with pesto (8 euros) and I had the lasagna (11 euros). It was very good, not great. For the price would recommend it. Repeated the dinner again. Same results, however we did notice a 2 euro per person charge. Whether this was a mandatory tip or for bread, we didn't know. The third time definitely was not a charm! I ordered pasta carbonara that was the worst pasta that I have ever been served anywhere in any country. Absolutely tasteless. No sauce. Nothing. It was like a serving of al dente spaghetti on a plate with nothing else on it. My husband's dinner was not as bad but was certainly not good. It was a terrible meal, although the men running the restaurant were very friendly but service was slow. Even though this restaurant was convenient, just opposite the train station, I wouldn't recommend it. It could be pretty good or just plain awful!

We eat at the Ristorante Trieste (via balbi 157, 159r). We had good pasta and excellent friendly atmosphere. Don't expect anything posh, but just italian pasta and good service.
