My husband and I stayed there 3 nights before our cruise and one night after our cruise. The best location with an easy walk downtown and the train station down the street and Palazzo Reale 3 blocks away. Breakfast buffet was incredible and our dinner one evening there was delicious and reasonable. Don't bother with the local restaurants which were disappointing. Hotel staff was always helpful, rooms were clean and gorgeous, great beds & bathrooms. Free wifi was wonderful. Loved this hotel. Highly recommend if you plan to visit Genoa which you will love.

We stayed at the Savoia for one night in January. The hotel has been recently reopened after a major renovation and has incredibly attractive rates. Overall I would say it is a good place to stay but far from what you would expect from a 5 stars hotel. Upon arrival they did not find our reservation and we had to wait for more then half an hour. The kind receptionist, to apologize, offered us an upgrade in a deluxe room. The room was nice but not perfectly clean: a hair in the minibar, stained walls, dust in the bathroom. It was a pity since globally it was a nice room. There was a lack of attention to details a bit everywhere in the hotel. Breakfast was excellent with a huge buffet. Reception staff were always kind and willing to plese. The barman was pleasant and one of those persons it is nice to speak with, since he has been working at the hotel for more then 30 years.
I think next time we will try the other 5 stars in town.

I have traveled a good part of the world for both personal and business trips. I have stayed in amazing hotels and not so amazing to actual dumps... I stayed at the Savoia Grand in Genoa back in October 2009 and again in 2010... the first time was to inspect this hotel and others in this bustling Port City... The Grand Savoia is just wonderful -- the rooms were decorated very nicely, newer and very clean, the breakfast was excellent -- and the staff were even more graceful, gentle and kind ... I would go back to Genoa just to stay at this hotel... Genoa I found amazing as well... it took a day or so to actually say "oh wow" look at how amazing this city is... it definately is.... just walk it and you will see... not enough room here to write it poetic justice.... anyway I did compare this hotel to others and the only other one I like is the Best Western City Hotel and the Bently (way more expensive) -- only issue -- is it's absolutely great location... that is across from the Principe Station -- somtimes there is traffic noise... but I would stay here in a heart beat ... price was always better as well....

The Grand Hotel Savoia was probably the highlight of all our hotel stays. The rooms are stunning with beautiful views and the staff was the most helpful of any hotel I have stayed in .
The breakfast buffet was extensive and delicious. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We were here for two nights at the beginning of December. I had reserved a superior room but was upgraded to a big executive room on the 5th floor. However this was a smoking room and the forced air heating system was stuck on full blast. We were given a large, non-smoking superior room on the 3rd floor. The heating system didn't work but I didn't bother complaining as the room was OK and the temperature outside wasn't that low. They have an electrically heated towel rack in the bathroom that kept that room OK.

The other reviews are spot on: The breakfast was incredible; The hotel is across the street from the train station but still quiet. The only real noise was from some street work being done just down the street during the day. Most of the buses or the subway are either in front of the station or down the street and will get you anywhere you want in town.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my husband. Arrive by train from Rome and was able to walk from station. On arrival our room was not ready so we were given complementary coffee and biscuits. The staff were fantastic, from check in to bar to breakfast and especially the waiters in the dining room. We had dinner there both nights and were served by Fredrico and his colleagues. Fantastic service. The room was lovely, as was the whole hotel- very old world but every thing you could want. Roof top view over Genoa was fantastic. We walked all around the old city and it was easy and convenient to come back to the hotel. We would certainly recommend this hotel and love to stay again.

Chose this mainly because it was close enough to the station to drag the suitcases to. But what a find. Stately reception and lounge areas, recently refurbished and comfortable bedrooms, and agree with other people on the breakfast - we couldn't eat lunch in Genoa! The hotel is well located for the old town and the port area, and there is a fabulous view from the whirlpool tub on the top floor terrace. I understand what others say about the area, but thats all part of Genoa's character, and it never felt threatening or dangerous. And the area isn't deserted - there are always other tourists making their way back to the station or the hotel.
