“OK budget hotel”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

We chose the Meuble Swiss because of its location close to the old town area, and because it was a reasonable price. We had no expectation of a luxury hotel, but we did expect a little more than we got.

The hotel is difficult to get to in a car. It is on a busy street with no stopping/parking possible outside the building. We parked at a nearby car park and walked to the building. The hotel is actually a collection of rooms on the third floor of the building. Access is via a small lift. The reception staff were very helpful in regard to where we could safely park the car overnight (they have an arrangement with a local underground carpark). They also helped us out with restaurant suggestions.
The room was small (expected) with a small modular bathroom unit fitted in the corner. Shower was a very tight fit. Without air conditioning, the windows need to be left open, with consequences for noise. Meuble Swiss in on a very busy street - the traffic was heavy well into the night. A big plus was the bed - very comfortable. The room and bath were both very clean - but old and basic.
Free WiFi is available, but the signal was very low. My wife needed to stand in the hallway to get he iPhone to connect.

If you have a car, I would probably recommend finding a hotel with parking and the ability to park outside while you unload. For others, the Meuble Swiss would be OK for a budget overnight stay (2 at most) - just keep in mind that European budget hotels (in our experience) have very basic facilities.

RE: the other comments about location - We had no trouble finding the hotel - just keyed in 21 Settembre XX into our GPS and it took us directly to the building.

This place is in a very good location close to genoa brignole train station less than 10min walk with luggage. Very close to the port and the centre off town. We enjoyed ourselves, room was clean and sizable. The host is incredibly helpful and a wonderful man who made our stay very nice. He recommended trains to cinque Terre and it was a great day recommend that as a day trip. This town is well worth a visit and this hotel was well suited.

This hotel was a bit tricky to find, as the majority of buildings on this street have two addresses and they don't necessarily go in numerical order (87, 89, 13, 101, etc.). The address is 21/6, so we assumed that it was on the 6th floor of the 21st building, but it was actually on the 3rd floor but just has the address "6." Anyway, we had to ask for directions at another hotel and then once we found it, had lots of fun riding up and down on the antique elevator in order to find it. This is a tiny little hotel (9 rooms only, I think) but the service was great, the room was incredibly clean. We had a balcony AND the internet worked (which was especially great, since I was working on this trip and hadn't connected in days). Great spot with good value!

We've been in Genoa for a couple of days and I have to say it's been such a shame to leave a place like Meublè Suisse. Amazing location, cleaning and hospitality were at the top notch! The unique charm and kindness of Mauro, the owner, were the biggest value of the place.. And it was worth to pay even more for such a service.. He was helping us out with every doubt and advice in an unknown city like genoa. I recommend it for everyone! This is the perfect example of a small business with small prices but big results ! Sure, I'll go back there if I'll be around!
Thank you again Mauro!

Perfect location situated on the main shopping street. Easy 5 minute walk to the Metro. Staff were extremely helpful when we arrived and provided us with a map of the city, and circled all the points of interest for us. Accommodation was okay. Bedding was clean but bed side tables and some surfaces were quite dusty. The shower was extremely small and it was interesting squeezing through the small gap to get in! Toilet liked to spit out contents when you flushed, but other than that worked fine. I'd recommend staying here for one night, personally I wouldn't want to stay here for a longer visit- but overall satisfactory!

Stayed at the Meuble Suisse in October 2012, young couple in our early twenties. The hotel is on the 3rd floor in a building on the main road, we werent sure what to make of the hotel at first whilst walking up to the floor, there is a lift but it is very old looking and neither of us wanted to use it at first, but we eventually did and its absolutely fine :) Was greeted by a lovely man on reception who showed us to our room, the decor is not great but do not have a bad word to say about the room, the cleanliness was superb through our 3 night stay. We had booked the room with a shared bathroom which we were worried about but neither of us saw enyone else use the bathroom during out stay, again it was amazingly clean all of the time.

We had a fair bit of rain throughout our stay in Genoa and had wet clothes/shoes, the heating for some reason did not work in the hotel but the kind man on reception said that he would get a electric heater for our room, when we came back the next day as promised we had a heater.

Would stay here again, perfect for a few nights in the city, great service, comfy beds and good location for getting around Genoa.

Room Tip: Payment for the room is taken when you leave, also there is 1€ city tax per person per night
