“Bygone luxury close to the sea”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

200yr old building, shaped like a Chinese pagoda.Beautiful marble stairs, and furnishings.Own private garden with access via tunnel under railway to sea front.Railway close by , but noise not intrusive if keep windows shut at night.Plenty of parking space.Small outdoor pool. Our room on 4th floor had balcony on which we could sit, with sea view.Very clean, with bed linen changed frequently.Large quite firm bed, with firm pillows.Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Good standard of food in dining room.About 700yd walk along sea front to train station.A lovely ,quite romantic, place to stay. Only two small niggles. Menu in restaurant same every night - a pity and not helpful if staying a week, and nowhere comfortable to sunbathe in garden. We enjoyed our stay, and were sorry to leave

Room Tip: Higher floors with balconies with a sea view are what we would choose

We were guests of our Italian suppliers and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is glorious, and typical of a luxury Italian hotel of days gone by, however it had everything we needed for our stay. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the restaurant was excellent and the room delightful as well as all the other sitting areas dotted around the hotel. The location was perfect. A nice walk into central Nervi for some lovely shops and bars or walk along the passeggiata if you prefer. Just a wonderful experience.

We arrived after an 8 hour drive early evening to find out that the restaurant was closed.no explanation provided but when we asked about food were given a take out menu from a pizza/kebab shop 15 mins away. We did try go out to find food and walked a 2 kilometre round trip to get pizza. Not good enough.
Room ok, rather dated, not worth €200 despite the stunning views.
Also found out when we got back from our unplanned long walk that no staff stay on site over night, we were advised not to go downstairs after 11pm as would set alarms off, and if we had an emergency to dial 9. That is completely unacceptable.
Breakfast was bleak, staff appeared to be getting their breakfast at same time, very limited choice, ie one type cheese, one type ham for continental breakfast.
Overall staff friendly, but had no idea of what good service is.

If we hadn't been so exhausted we would have left as soon as we got there.

Room Tip: I don't know what the hotel is like in season, but just don't bother out of season, they can...

I've stayed in Villa Pagoda several times. Each time I feel so at home. Everything is perfect - from the service to the guest rooms to the gardens and location on the Passeggiata of Nervi. I would never stay anywhere else while in the Genova area.

Room Tip: Top floor has the best view

Villa Pagoda is a shy but lovely older hotel that exudes charm from a bygone era. We enjoyed our stay immensely, very friendly staff, quiet location, nothing was too much trouble during our stay. Linens and rooms were impeccably clean, excellent hot water pressure, heated towel racks, lots of thoughtful touches make it a great option if you like a laid back but welcoming place to stay while in Italy. Location is good - walk to pretty much anywhere and easy access to trains and buses, Genova airport about 30 minute taxi ride away. We'd highly recommend it!

Room Tip: Room with a sea view and small deck to sit out and enjoy the Mediterranean Sea are worth the additio...

Waking up each morning and seeing the water, feeling the breeze and the hearing the quiet was wonderful. The team that runs the Villa are very helpful, very pleasant and remembered everything! The food in the restaurant was excellent! I enjoyed being far enough from the hustle of Nervi, to feel relaxed and get some exercise walking to the train, but close enough that the walk was refreshing and not arduous. And the Passegiata! a little path behind the Villa and you are there! All in all a perfect way to spend a week on the Italian Riviera!

Room Tip: I had the suite with the huge balcony! If you can, go for it! You have room and feel like you live t...

We were looking forward to stay at one of the best rated hotels in Genoa but sadly we were not impressed with quality versus price.

Location: Amazing!!! Stunning views!

Staff: Very friendly, helpful and hospitable!

Breakfast: fair spread.

So why were we disappointed???

Prices: €385 a night for the suit and we stayed 3 nights! We gladly paid it IF the room was quality finishing BUT furniture were old and TORN, bathrooms were not cleaned properly and the room was dusty upon arrival.

For that reason... Paying €1100 for 3 nights was NOT value for money ( please see the pictures!!!)

Would we go back despite great location...

Unfortunately no...
