From the reviews on trip advisor we were expectingmuch better. The bathroom was huge and modern buttthe room itself was cramped with an uncomfortble bed. The breakfast was good and although we had no real specific complaints about the hotel, we are certain that better value for money can be found in Genoa.

Great little hotel. We had a room with a view over the port, saw the fire works from the celebrations surrounding the submarine beiong taken on by the maritime museum. Wow, what a turnout ! one of the biggest social nights out in Genova for a while I would say. Why would you stay in an antiseptic very expensive 5 star hotel when you can get an experience like that and be very comfortable at the same time. Every 5 star in the world looks and feels the same, no character an no chance to get to know any of the locals or any of the little things that make a place interesting. I quite like to stay in older hotels, they all have a sense of belonging, of having a place in the world, and of having a history of service and people. Much better than stainless and glass with no character at all. The staff were very good, spoke good English, and nothing was too much trouble. Good service will sell me every time.

This was chosen firstly as it was easy walking distance from the station and cruise terminal. The staff were very helpful; price on Expedia was reasonable; breakfast was ample and the rooms were comfortable. We (2 couples) shared a double room with 2 bathrooms.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in January 2008 and really enjoyed it. It was a little shabby in parts, but we found the services excellent. The room was very clean, the position was excellent, the staff most helpful, and the breakfast generous. Loved the coffee!! It was a good choice for a week's stay in Genova.

  • Liked — It's position. Closeness to old part of town and railway station.
  • Disliked — No tea/coffee facilities in room, but staff very helpful in providing for us.

I booked my reservation on www.booking.com; we paid 90 euro a night (which, for the convenience of the location compared to other places, was a steal). We arrived late on a Thursday night by car; it was a little difficult to find even though we were using GPS, but it's no fault to the hotel, some of the streets were closed off. It was in a little alley way and the front door was locked (whew, security) and we rang the door bell (someone came within a minute or two to let us in). We checked in with no problems and moved our car to our reserved parking spot; I contacted the property directly to make sure we had one (15 euro a night for a locked parking garage; well worth it since when we pulled up my husband thought he was about to be confronted by a hooker before I got out of the car). During the day the hotel is in a very safe neighborhood, but at night everything in the area becomes a little shady (I heard it's like this everywhere in Genova though). The aquarium/port is about a 5-10 minute walk away and the train station is less than 5 minutes away. Everything in the city is within walking distance of some sort. The breakfast was typical European with rolls/bread, fruit and upon request coffee was included in the price of our hotel room. We brought our own items for lunch and dinner, but if you plan on eating out, there aren't very many restaurants in the area (a kebab stand, a couple of pizzerias and an over priced restaurant). The beds were a little hard, but made no difference to us and the bathroom was tiny; we also had A/C in our room. If you don't speak Italian, don't bother trying to watch the TV (unless you like MTV). The room and hotel were clean and the people that work there speak English. And since it was off the road, it was quiet; we could not hear any of the guests around us either. Overall, I'm very happy with what we paid and what we got in return.

  • Liked — Location!
  • Disliked — TV all in Italian (not a big deal, it is the national language after all...)

We stayed at Hotel Agnello D'Oro for one night after missing a train connection in Genoa. It was literally the first hotel we found with availability after leaving the train station at midnight. It was maybe a 5 minute walk from the train station. We were relieved to get a bed and a shower. If it were not an emergency situation, I would never stay here. The accommodations are rustic (old) and I could probably only fall asleep in that bed out of pure exhaustion. There was no air conditioning (not that we expected it) and in the morning we were awoken by construction in the back lot, just outside our open window. There was a breakfast buffet featuring pastries and cheese and a fairly decent cappuchino.

  • Liked — Only a 5 minute walk to the train station.
  • Disliked — Old Bed.

Great location just a 2-3 minutes walk from the station. Even at night, in unfamiliar territory we felt safe. We got in late and were greeted by a very friendly desk clerk with excellent English. We confirmed breakfast and realized we could not have breakfast since we would be catching an early train out in the morning. More on that later..., our room was quite, had air conditioning that was efficient and quite, and it was very clean. In the morning, the same frindly desk clerk was working and he had setup breakfast early so took us into the breakfast room and let us take anything we wanted for our trip. This goes above and beyond required service. I think that alone is a great reason to come back and stay again.

  • Liked — clean, and nice location
  • Disliked — just a little more than I like to pay but still a fair price
