“Exemplary customer service”
Reviewed 20 September 2013

Question: Why is this place so special to us? Answer: the natural welcome.
We were new, in a new city, new to local menus and slightly nervous in this beautiful Genoan square.
We don't speak fluent Italian, but were treated so well we returned several times. Why? Answer: this place just enabled us to fit in.
Firstly, on a hot and sunny day the location is strategically perfect. On the main pedestrianised walk between Piazza Ferrari and the waterside it is positioned on one of the most imposing of squares. Sitting under one of the several umbrellas it is the perfect place to watch the world go by. Beautiful architecture all around with the coming and going of the para military vehicles from the main police station kept us thoroughly entertained.
On our visits here we consumed a variety of beverages (beer, wine and coffee) but the pastries were out of this world. On visit one we were brought a tray of tasters. They were all individually superb.
Now here is where the personality of this business really scored. We were particularly taken by a tiny "bigne" or mini eclair. When we explained this to our waitress not only were we brought four more (two each) but a hand written recipe in English accompanied them (see photo). How attentive was this?
If there is a Genoan Tourist Board Award for customer service this patisserie should easily win outright as it is such a welcoming beacon and a great credit to the city.

“A nice guilty pleasure”
Reviewed 10 August 2013 via mobile

We actually went to the shop in xx Setembre. It is on a corner with tables outside. We had coffee and cakes. Wow the cakes are so lovely, really melt in the mouth for some. So delicate they are. Only downside, is they are expensive, mor so when you eat in. €3.60 take away €5.50 eat in, but so worth it. Just wonderful. Very French of course. Don't be scared by the price or take away and sit somewhere else.

“Nice outside seating bar opposite amazing Church in central Genoa.”
Reviewed 10 September 2012

I'm not sure tourists seating at this bar in Piazza Matteotti are aware that in nearby church, Chiesa del Gesu e dei Santi Ambrogio e Andrea, there are paintings by Rubens. Myself, being half genoan, wasn't aware either and therefore shame on me. a cousin of my took me there to have breakfast and it was very good. they serve lots of different types of pastries, brioches are called in italy, and i quite liked it. only nuisance were the beggars and crowds of extremely unpolite russian tourists for which i reckon there is only one cure...

i will go back.
