“Good service, friendly staff”
Reviewed 29 May 2012

Three adults stayed 10 nights in a suite - room 111. The location is great, in the old town, a few minutes walk from the palazzi, train station, and harbor. The staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly when needed to control a group of noisy 10-11 year old children that invaded the hotel one weekend. The suite was unusual, with a very large central room, small single room near entry door, a small, tightly arranged bathroom, and a kitchen. Front rooms are over a busy bus stop with heavy traffic from 7:00 until 22:00. The side alley was a pedestrian walkway that carried the sound of conversations into the room quite easily. The breakfast was good-- various breads, cheese, cold cuts, yogurt, orange juice, and a great selection of coffees and teas. The Wi-Fi never worked during our stay, but the public computer usually was available with a short wait.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the back-- if there are any.

The hotel has a historical background, you can feel the soul of the city.
It is a good choice for a short stay, well located, with a friendly staff. If you are travelling by car, there is a possibility to leave it in a parking garage in an opposite street. The fee is about 16 EUR per night. The breakfeast was moderate, served in a room which was not a cosy one. Do not expect much comfort, but still there is something attractive in the place.

This hotel is well located in Genoa, in Piazza Nunziata from a relatively small distance from the train station, Piazza de Ferrari and Porto Antico (about 10 minutes). In front of the hotel is a bus stop.

It is in fact an old building built in 1585, rooms are small, no balcony, and the natural light was missing because of our approach to the next building .

The camera is equipped with a mini-fridge, air conditioning, TV and bathroom which is it quite small and crowded.

Instead, the hotel staff was super , good English speakers were very kind and nice, they were at our disposal whenever we needed something, they gave us maps of the city and showed us places that necessarily had to be visited.

They served breakfast, included in the room price, every day the same, but taking into account that the hotel has no restaurant and no kitchen fit was quite good.

The room was cleaned every day, they completed the minibar contents every day (it was free and contained four half bottles of water).

We had wireless internet and a computer to which we had unlimited access.
It is a good hotel and I recommend it to those who want to use it exclusively for night rest and it is a great place to start discovering Genoa.

Room Tip: I think they have bigger rooms than ours, because a couple from our group that was traveling with th...

I have been going to the Hotel Helvetia for a number of years with a large group of people. The hotel is an historic 3*** hotel right in the center of town and it is near all main activities. These include the famous aquarium, the Galata museum and all of the fantastic historic streets, the port and the many museums right down town Genoa. You can walk everywhere. You can also find plenty of excellent restaurants near the hotel. WIFI is available for free everywhere in the hotel, as well as downstairs in the hall. Breakfast is plentiful, the hotel is clean and the service is very friendly, even when I take 20 other people to the hotel. Definitely a great value!

Room Tip: The street side of the hotel is a bit noisy (well, the hotel is located right in the old section of...

We recently visited Genoa with 4 people travelling so needed 2 rooms. There was a large difference between the two rooms. Our room was located in the back of the hotel overlooking an alley. It was on the small side and a little dreary. The noise from below during the night was quite loud. The bed was average, and the pillows were uncomfortable. The bathroom was recently updated and of good size with a nice shower. The second room was quite large with a balcony overlooking the traffic circle out front. The bathroom was also recently updated. The location was perfect, the staff very helpful. The breakfast fair. We ended up eating at one of the shops next to the hotel and enjoyed one of the best cappucinos of our trip. Parking was located across the street in an underground garage. All in all, we were least impressed with Genoa than the other Italian cities we visited and probably would not return.

We are a biased with this hotel, because this hotel is one of our favourites. When we go to the cruise from Genova we always stay here. Last time we slept here in this October. The hotel location is ideal, only few step the old port, and a centre. The staff is helpful, enough one e-mail, and they confirm our reservation. The rooms always clean, and beds comfortable. The breakfast is typical Italian, but we accustomed this. Next to the hotel begin the walking street. Opposite of the entrance is a covered and secured garage. In the hotel are a free internet point, and a free wifi.

Room Tip: Square of view

This hotel has been in operation for hundreds of years, and it's the most bizzare hotel I've ever seen. Rooms are decent, with good views at the front. No internet in the rooms. No parking onsite; hardly any parking at all nearby. 6/10

Dear Mr Ben,thank you very much for your kind report, our Hotel is really operating since a hundred years and the historical building that hosts us is dated 1585. An old building with a modern target: let people feel at home. We're glad to tell you that we have set up complimentary wireless facility throughout the hotel, which is always very appreciated so there's no need to go out and look for an Internet Point, that actually we also have at the Hall in case people don't have their own laptop. And all this for free!
We'll be happy to have you again here and hope you can appreciate the new improvements that we always try to offer to our old and new friends.
