Great location, wonderful hotel! We will definitely stay at this hotel when we return to Genoa! The rate for the room is reasonable and the view from our room was lovely. Within walking distance to many sights in Genoa. Perfetto!

We stayed in the Locanda di Palazzo Cicala for 2 nights. Overall we had a very good stay, right in the heart of the old town of Genua.
First of all, this is not really striking me as a "real" hotel. The reception is summary, and pretty much just the place where you pick up the key to your room. Our room was impressive, huge in size, 5 meter ceilings, onto a little square. Really a Palazzo experience. But people who look for a fully serviced hotel may be disappointed. Everything is a bit old style, which we found charming, but again if you are looking for functional perfection, this is not the place for you.
The Palazzo is perfectly located to do everything on foot, and a car is more a hindernis than an advantage. We had a hard time following the instructions from the hotel for parking, and ended up parking on a public parking near the old harbour, which was just 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Much closer than the City Park parking that the hotel had proposed.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 108, on the 3rd floor. Huge room with two big windows onto a little hidden square.

We had a great first stay in Genoa, Italy. We made our reservation at the last minute and were pleasantly surprised that everything went so smoothly. The apartment we chose was exactly as shown in the pictures and the location was absolutely amazing - we were minutes away from cafes, restaurants and all the spots we wanted to visit. This location made it extremely easy for our two little boys who do not enjoy long walks. Our boys also enjoyed the apartment, it was very unique and they had to use stairs to get to their own bedroom. They really enjoyed this very much. The staff at this property could not have been friendlier and more accommodating. We would definitely recommend Palazzo Cicala.

Room Tip: Location of the apartment was wonderful if travelling as a family with young children! Although the...

This was our first time in Genoa and we enjoyed the city, the museums, the cuisine and above all the accommodation in beautiful Palazzo Lomellino (located in Via Garibaldi) sooooo much!
Locanda di Palazzo Cicala is located in this historical building just opposite the Cathedral but they have de charme apartments throughout the city centre and, since this was our wedding anniversary, we were offered the up-grade in their apartment in Palazzo Lomellino. It feels like living a bit of history of Genoa - the apartment is peaceful and quiet and has 2 frescoed bedrooms and is the perfect starting point to visit the city.
We'll go back for sure and we high reccommed Locanda di Palazzo Cicala!

I would imagine all the apartments are all unique in their own ways and being part of a very old residence it will not be like staying in a 4 star hotel. Based on our experience - we ended up with a huge apartment overlooking the beautiful duomo for only £66 a night. Yes a lift up those 4 flights of stairs would have been nice but we are not going to die from the lack of a lift. Someone who could speak English on reception at all times would have been nice and infact would have resulted in us staying an extra night but it was not to be. When we arrived early on a Sunday morning they let us into our apartment early (and changed it from one I had booked much further away in the old town. Beware if using booking.com or something similar - it may say your apartment is in another building but it doesn't say another building about 20 mins walk away) and we indulged in the very nice buffet breakfast for 10 euros a person. I would go back - we loved Genoa and we loved having an apartment that was wound into the very fabric of old town Genoa.

So many things were wrong with this experience. Despite having asked in an email for some feedback after our experience we have received none.
We had researched accommodation in Genoa very carefully months before our arrival, and secured a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment with a lounge/dining area, roof terrace, kitchen and elevator through Palazzo Cicala. About three weeks before our arrival we received an email telling us it was no longer available as the “owner” had taken it back!!
At no time did we have contact with a senior manager despite the total inconvenience not to mention breaking the contract. To her credit Nadia, the young receptionist, tried her best to help us. Because of the Boat Show Genoa was booked out. Therefore, somewhat reluctantly we accepted the apartment in Palazzo Lomellino even though it didn’t really meet our needs as a couple and two singles.
Here is where the problems really begin!
The elevator didn’t work so after hauling our luggage around the Old Town we had to haul it up two and a half flights of stairs.
There are two bedrooms, one living area, and a totally inadequate bathroom! The layout of the apartment is a farce with three large rooms in a line therefore if you’re in the far away bedroom you can’t use the bathroom at night without waking others. The bathroom is down 17 very steep twisty stairs without a handrail.
The bathroom is basic in the extreme. The shower curtain is filthy, there’s nowhere for 4 people to hang towels, there’s no vanity cupboard and very little shelf space, the toiletries are of very poor quality as are the towels, the windows were stuck and the fan didn’t work, the walls are grubby, and there is cleaning material stuffed in the corner on the floor behind the basin.
Lighting is totally inadequate. There’s no air-conditioning and no mosquito screening on any windows. Shutters on the windows need adjustment.
There are no suitcase racks, only one ancient wardrobe in the living area, and no chest of drawers or even shelf space for clothing in any room.
The living room also contains one tiny bar fridge, a kettle that doesn’t work properly, cutlery stored in the fridge and crockery in the wardrobe! This is for use when they deliver the very basic breakfast basket each morning – be warned delivery is erratic and the last day we got none at all. The only water is down in the dungeon bathroom so up and down the stairs you have to go to fill the useless kettle! No tea bags are provided, and only instant coffee (in Italy!?)There is nowhere to sit to eat breakfast (or to work on the computer) but there is a huge and useless dining table in the first bedroom (no chairs though).
The TV is in the first bedroom – interesting if all four of you want to huddle on the bed to watch BBC World News! I have to say that internet connection was good, reliable and free.
In the “dormitory” bedroom there are no bedside tables/lamps for reading. There are some narrow shelves and a tiny cupboard, which on investigation contains cleaning stuff, including a sopping wet mop head – nice!
The beds are clean and comfortable. However, only one very skinny foam rubber pillow is provided per person.
If we had been able to find a hotel to accommodate us, we would have been gone the first night! Avoid at all costs!

Room Tip: Book a different hotel!
