My friend and I arrived here and were quite shocked about the area we were in. Though very central and close to bakeries and supermarkets, the area was very seedy, with lots of men calling out to us in Italian as we walked with our suitcases to the hotel. There were also about four ladies selling their services out the front of the hotel most of the time. I have no issue with that kind of work, but I was concerned about what kind of clientele they would attract. My friend and I resolved to always be back in the hotel before dark, and to not tell our parents about what the area was like until we got home!
The rooms themselves were clean and comfortable. We couldn't get the TV to work, but we were able to stream the Eurocup on my friend's laptop. There was a fair bit of noise at night but I still managed to sleep fairly well. The bathrooms were fine, nothing special but no complaints. The front desk manager was helpful, showing us on a map where to get ferries to Portofino, the Cinque Terre etc. He also helped lug my friend's enormous suitcase up the stairs. The hotel was close to the ferry and to the metro and bus stations. On the whole, our stay here was fine, but I wouldn't stay there again.
