After reading how difficult it is to drive/park in Cinque Terre, I looked into La Spezia. This place is perfect. The parking structure is right next to the train station which is a 5 min walk to the apartment. We parked the car there for the weekend and took the train into Cinque Terre. Very easy and accessible. We rented two adjoining rooms for our family of 4. The building is very secure and close to the center of town. The rental agent greets you as you arrive with a lot of helpful info regarding Cinque Terre, the train, boats, etc. gives you a map and shows you around the vicinity. It's not a 4 or 5 star place, but the location, security, access to train/ boat is what makes this place great in my book!

Overall experience was good. The room was clean and spacious (with a fridge), the beds were comfortable, the location was great (not far from the railway station) and the owner was very friendly and helpful. Slight problems were: our bedroom had a very high window covered by a thin piece of fabric which let in a lot of street light. As I need a dark room to sleep, this was problematic but resolved with an eye mask. The bathroom was clean and more than adequate, but there were missing tiles on the floor of the shower, for those who care about such things. The only real downer was the breakfast provided by local cafe using a voucher supplied by the motel - it was more of a pre-brekky snack than a meal.

If you are staying in La Spezia, this is a great place to stay. The hotel is in a great location - about 5 minutes walking from the train station and about 10 to 15 minutes walking to the water where the boat leaves to go to Cinque Terre. If you are going to Cinque Terre, I would suggest trying to find a hotel in one of the villages. If you choose La Spezia though, stay here. The owner, Simone, is very friendly, we called him to let him know when we would be arriving. Even though our train was delayed, he was there waiting for us and was very nice and informative. He told us all about how to get to Cinque Terre and about the surrounding area in La Spezia. He gave us maps and a tour.
The rooms themselves are a little bare, but they were very clean and nice. There was AC that worked very well. It was a little loud at night though from the cars driving by. There is a complementary breakfast at one of the nearby cafes. It is not very much of a breakfast though, just a croissant and drink, but I guess it's better than nothing.
Overall great place to stay!

We had to tell the owner what time we were planning to arrive so he could be there. When we came he explained it all, gave us maps and tips and all the info we needed. The room was ok, the bed wasn't as great. The only downside was the breakfasts - we had to go to a local cafe and we only got tea/coffee and croissant/sandwich.

Very convenient location, 10 minutes walk to the station in a straight line! Very clean accommodation and comfortable. Met by charming owner with no complaints that we were 25 minutes later than we had agreed. Safe area with places nearby to eat and drink. Useful tour of local area by owner. Very quiet at night. Breakfast location nice and it is possible to buy more food cheaply if the simple breakfast not adequate.
