This place will be perfect for someone who chooses to stay in La Spezia for it's convenience to travel to Cinque Terre.
La Branda hostel is 3 min walk from the train station. And about 20 min walk from the town centre.
Giulia, the owner of the hostel, contacted me via e-mail 2 days prior to our arrival to find out what time we will be coming so she can be around. We however arrived much earlier then first anticipated so the fact that I had her contact mobile number was very handy.
She showed us the room which was very cozy and nicely decorated. The bathroom was a bit small but since we were only staying 2 nights it wasn't a problem. Our room was in a flat on 3rd floor. Both flats that Giulia runs as hostels are opposite each other. One has got rooms with own bathrooms the other flat has got shared bathroom.
The only down side I would say was the fact that the block of flats is close to the main road which can be quite noisy in the mornings.
We got 4 vouchers for breakfast. We could choose from two coffee place - one just next door the other few streets down the road. Giulia recommended the further away one...we only got a cup of coffee and a pastry each.
The second morning the place was so busy we only stood at the end of the serving counter, but we didn't mind as it was great experience to watch the locals having their quick cup of morning coffee.
Great thing about La Spezia is that the first village of Cinque Terre is only 10 min away on the train.
Giulia recomended that we take the train to the other side of Cinque Terre - Monterosso and walk back. The walk between the first 3 villages is supposed to be the most beautiful and I can agree with that.
La Spezia town centre is quite pretty - lots of shops and restaurants, but be prepared all shops and restaurants we closed in the afternoon. We were starving, but manage to find ony one restaurant that served food at about 4pm... The pizza was amazing though.
The main square was very busy with great atmosphere and all restaurants open and packed at about 8pm.
Have a great stay!
