Hotel is in terrible location if you are traveling by train or not. Went to La Spezia because rooms in Monterosso were full. I was thinking something close to harbor to catch boat to Monterosso where I wanted to start hike. Boat is 7Euro and train 2.+ and the train is 15 min verses hour by boat, also boat wasn't running because seas were rough.
The hotel is in process of being updated, we stayed in rooms 522 and 526 when stepping off elevator on 5th floor was in shock at how filthy the carpet was, big black spot on faded carpet. Went to get a glass and almost got sick when the glass with plastic on was crusted in toothpaste waste where someone had kept there toothbrush (have pics). Shower curtain black on bottom with the shower being either hot or cold. Sink in 536 would not drain. After complaining that this was the filthiest hotel they moved me to room 622, found out later that 6th and upper floors remodeled. Carpet was clean, new bedding, and nice amenities only one problem when remodeling they did not paint? Breakfast in morning was good until I saw wait staff take used individual jam jar that was used on the table next to me and replace the lid tightly and put in back with the new jars.
