We thought this hotel was a good value for the money. We opted for a shared bathroom, which was never a problem. The breakfast was great. There was air conditioning and free internet with a computer provided in a room across the hall. The only downside was that we arrived at the train station at 9:00 p.m. and did not have any idea how to get there. The attendant at the station pointed us in the wrong direction. We ended up walking for an hour and arrived at 10:00 p.m. Take a taxi. If you do decide to walk it will take about 30 minutes and you need to walk through the Galleria Spallanzani (the tunnel). The hotel is near the hospital. There is a small hotel sign. You need to go up the steps to the hotel.

Our stay in La Spezia (which we chose for cost and the boat ride to Cinque Terre, rather than stay in one of the 5 Terre) turned into an unexpected treat. La Spezia is a real city with tourism only a component of the city's life. Franco Costa, proprietor of ca' dei Costa, is a genuinely nice guy who went out of his way to be helpful with directions, suggestions -- even with a supply of bus tickets and directions for using them, which bus to take and so on. We would definitely stay with him again should we find ourselves in that part of Italy.

Very happy to have found this hotel. Located just a quick walk from the city center, with many restaurants and cafés on the way. Clean and large rooms, cheap and free use of internet computer. The breakfast was great, and staff was very friendly and helpful. Great balcony!

Hotel Ca Dei Costa is a good bace if going to Chinque terre and Portovenere and on a budget, the breakfast was the best we had out of all the places we stayed at in all of Europe, and the staff very helpful.

Franco was so helpful from minute one, discreet and nice. The room was clean and quiet. 10 minutes from city, and a few steps from the beach. The restaurant next to the hotel is popular among locals and we had an great dinner there following Franco's advise.
Stayed 2 nights, great base for Cinque Terre.
Great Breakfast, actually bigger than in the 4* in Venezia we stayed at!!
We arrived and asked for a rooma nd we got a rate including breakie and could use internet free.

We spent three nights at the Hotel Costa, with the intention of using it as a cheap base for exploring the Cinque Terre area. The hotel was one of the more affordable in the area, and was certainly a great value.

From the train station, it is probably a 20 minute walk to the hotel, and it would be worth grabbing a taxi if you had a fair amount of luggage.

The location was quiet, and there were two grocery stores within a few blocks of the hotel. Good for buying snacks, and drinks. There was a small bar/restaurant right beside the hotel, that was very reasonably priced. The area around the hotel was very local, meaning there were very little in the way of tourists in the area. A nice authentic experience.

The hotel offered free in room espresso, and the owner and his wife live on site, and the place was clean, and the area very safe.

All you could ask for in a hotel that you are using as a base to explore the area from.
