“Good home base for a family”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2010

We stayed in a quad room (2 bedrooms, 1 bath) and had a good experience. The room was quiet and the breakfast is something to look forward to. The rooms are pretty basic but they're in good repair and are not old or worn out.

The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the train station (no big hills if you're carrying bags) and close to one of the main pedestrian walkways with shops and restaurants. The staff was very helpful and had all the answers and literature to our questions re: hiking Cinque Terre, restaurants, etc.

Value for money was fairly good (La Spezia and the Cinque Terre region are on the pricey side, and with four people in the room this was more economical than two rooms just about anywhere else). I also appreciated the fact this was a real hotel -- often B&Bs and smaller places can be one of the most memorable parts of a trip, but there are days (hiking, long travel days) when you just want to get your key and sink into the bed with a minimum of drama. This is a great place to do that (though the staff is very friendly and talkative if you're interested).

We booked in advance and once we got there we were upgraded (not suree why) to a large two room suite. Very big space and very clean with a great over sized terrace. Location of hotel lis right in town easy wlking distant to train station and therfore access to Cinque Terre. Staff were friendly and breakfast was good. Only issue with hotel was noise from other guests carried through out the building and we had the most oddly designed bathroom I have ever seen in my travels. HIt my head twice on hot water tank and climber over toilet to get to shower, it was very odd. Other than that it was a good stay at the hotel.

Let me lead off by saying that this hotel is probably suitable for most people looking to explore Cinque Terre. For the most part, the hotel worked but there were just many annoying things that made it hard to enjoy our stay here.

The room was kind of small, had a cold tile floor, and was very noisy when moving the chair around to sit or when our daughter was moving around in her crib, it would scrape the floor. Not to mention, the noise from the other rooms because very overwhelming and made it hard to settle our little one into sleep. The crib that was provided was basically broken and every time our daughter moved in her sleep, the entire bed moved with her. The room did not have an area that we could put our daughter for her own privacy and where we would not disturb her. I realize this isnt the job of the hotel, but it is worth telling other parents. On the bright side, the bed was comfortable and the room had some semblance of style.

The location of the hotel was interesting. It was way up on a hill, but close to the main shopping pedestrian district. If we hadnt discovered it ourself, we never would have known that we could take the elevator to the bottom floor and walk out onto the main street. For the first day, we were carrying the stroller up and down a very large set of stairs. This might be something that the staff should mention to its guests. Parking was a little bit of a challenge because there are only a few spaces in front of the hotel and we werent able to land one. The parking garage is nice enough and a little ways down the street. We were charged 15 euro a night which wasnt bad by European standards.

The staff was nice, but not overly knowledgeable. For example, we asked for a good day trip within 90 minutes and we got the deer in the head lights. They said, go to Cinque Terre. Well obviously we were going to do that, but we also wanted to see some other towns on one of our free days. we ended up going to Portovenere, which was only a town away and outstandingly beautiful!

The breakfast was good, but nothing to write home about. Many hotels in Europe have outstanding breakfasts, so this hotel would need to make a lot of progress to catch up with those places. In the end, My One Hotel was a good base for Cinque Terre (10 minute walk to the train station). We didnt like La Spezia very much and the area around the hotel is very cramped and dirty. It only gets a little better at the base of the hill.

Yes, I agree with other reviews that the hotel is well located if you are exploring Cinque Terre but it's just a practical place, nothing else. It looks good on the pictures but it's rather basic although modern. The soundproofing is the most annoying feature of this hotel, so take your ear plugs if you are sensitive. We could actually hear the neighbours zip their suitcase, let alone their conversation (in German)... I am not sure what else there is in La Spezia so difficult to be critical but after spending 2 nights in Florence in a lovely hotel for the same price, we were disappointed. Just as well, we have only one night here.

We spent several nights at this hotel while visiting the Cinque Terre. We found the hotel fairly quickly after our arrival but it was located a considerate distance from the train station. The location of the hotel was fairly quiet considering the hotel is located right next to a large apartment complex. We found the staff were excellent and extremely helpful. Our room was clean and it was quite spacious. The breakfast they served was also very good with a large selection of things to eat. The only complaint that I had was in regards to the last morning we were at the hotel. I think they had a few more guests than usual and the hotel dining area seemed to be slightly under-staffed. The ladies in the tiny kitchen were unable to keep up with cooking breakfast for everyone and we had a bit of a delay. Otherwise, we would stay here again.

The hotel is good value for money. It's a bit of a walk from the station though with you have luggage. It's close to restaurants and provide good access for exploring cinque terra.

Accomodation in cinque terra is usually small B&Bs in steep hills in narrow streets, so La Spezia (in my humble opinion) is the best option for exploring Cinque Terra as it's a good size town with restaurants, stores and hotels.

If you are looking for something posh, elegant and gourmet food, you better look for another hotel. But if you are looking for good value, clean and confortable accomodation close to restaurants and easy reach for exploring Cinque Terra then I highly recomend this hotel.
