When we're in Portofino I love to go to Restaurant Puny but the last two times we've been it's been closed. No problemo! Up the alley is Da u Batti (what does that translate to?). It's all about the shrimp or prawns or langoustines. Whatever they are they will flat knock your socks off. Forget the silverware, use your fingers, go along with the bib around your neck and be prepared for some of the most amazing shellfish ever. Served family style so don't fight over the last one, just order more. Have some salad first, local white wines, save room for tiramisu and be sure to finish with an espresso and a slug of their homemade grappa. Mamma Mia, you're not at the Olive Garden anymore!

Small, typical, unique, the setting, the welcome, the service, the food, UNIQUE !!! Saw how American tourists that did not want to eat with their fingers were helped to still enjoy the feast!!!! and do NOT ask for the recipe.... although I think that even if you had it, could not reproduce the experience.
One recognises the pleasure the employees have in serving you this magnificent delicious scampi, not to mention the Gewuerztraminer .... just a memorable dinner .. and in the end the sugar cubes with anis are just to kill.
Joined my list of the best ever.

How good can scampi be? This good is the answer! Can't imagine shrimp that tastes any fresher or better than this..and the sauce..oh my! Great on the bread after the sauce is gone. Must go if in Portofino.

A short walk off the harbor down a narrow alley, but worth the effort. Claudio, was a wonderful host for our lunch. The antipasti du mare was excellent….one was plenty for the two of us. The sea bass, swordfish, and octopus were especially delicious. Their home made mayo was so creamy and delicious! The pesto past was excellent if a bit unusual with potatoes and beans mixed in. The scampi did not disappoint with a unique and exquisite flavor. Not inexpensive, but still a great value!

Claudio was kind and gracious. We are American tourists and we felt so welcomed. We started with the Antipati misti di mare and as spectacular as that was it only got better from there. We then had the house specialty of Scampi alla Battista. It has a fifty year old secret recipe that is possibly one of the best things that has passed these lips. It was followed up with a choice of lemon cello or grappo with mini cookies and something special. It is my hope to return to this beautiful place and dine here once again. If you are fortunate enough to get to Portofino. ....you MUST dine here.
