My husband and I were looking for a nice romantic place to go for a long weekend before the summer rush started. I eventually found this hotel while surfing the net - it looked fastastic so i booked a junior suite. I was a bit unsure as one could never really trust any hotel's website 100%. But we did have a fantastic time there and we loved the tiny village down by the beach Portofino. The hotel stands on the hills overlooking the harbor and the village and it is trully a wonderful setting! All the staff were very friendly and efficient but the consiege desk was particularly helpful. The hotel restaurant serves great food and has a romantic view of the harbor. We took a half board package which allows us to eat at other participating restaurants as well. So one evening we ate at the restaurant in town which is the sister hotel of Splendido which stood right in the middle of the main square. We had a wonderful dinner there. I should point out that it is quite pricy as one would expect. Also a bit disappointing is the breakfast buffet which was not as great as one would expect at such a hotel.

Room Tip: We had a junior suite which was not very spacious but with a wonderful balcony overlooking the harbo...

We drove from Genoa to this coastal village accessed by a small winding coastal road. The hotel itself is situated on the hilly side of slope overlooking the village.Arrival reception was excellent ,our car was taken to park by the front porter and we were quickly shown to our room which we were upgraded to one with small balcony facing the village. The hotel setting was quite beautiful set in a flowery garden atmosphere with romantic terrace and pool ,All hotel staff are quite experienced and make efforts to greet you at every moment. Certainly one of the best serviced small luxury hotel in Europe.A van is provided to town every 20 minutes with pick up.So you can wander around town at anytime. Some shops are good for shopping for clothes and others. But beware, this place is not for the light pocket. But it is worth the romantic experience going in couples. F&B is nice ,so is the piano bar in the evening.Breakfast is a little average.

Room Tip: request 4 th floor.for better view, ask for balcony also.

We were lucky enough to stay last week (it's opening week).I would agree with most of the comments made by previous reviewers. It's very expensive, just in tips I spent over 300euros (we were only there for 4 days!).Was the stay worth the money-most definitely yes.The service standards are very high & nothing was too much for the staff.A final word regarding the pianist. He was brilliant & was very popular.I can understand why he's been the resident pianist for over 20 years. A lovely chap & very entertaining.

During the day we went on some lovely walks using the dedicated footpaths. One day we made it to Rapello circa 5 miles & did the return walk! The area is well is served by a local bus network (catch down at Portofino town).I didn't fancy the coastal road so I didn't use the car during our stay.

Room Tip: A sea facing room is a must

We have stayed several times in the past but not recently. We returned at the very start of the 2012 season just prior to Easter (which, by the way, is an excellent time to go to beat the crowds). Contrary to some reports, the hotel is still in splendid form. The private and public rooms are immaculate and the entire staff is both friendly and highly competant. The setting, of course, is superb with beautiful gardens and a pool (+ tennis court) overlooking one of the most beautiful tiny ports in the world. Simply charming! Prices are what you would expect from a spectacular hotel-i.e., not for the faint hearted or budget traveler, but every aspect of the hotel is first class. Our only "complaint" would be about the rather overly loud piano player/singer in a "Las Vegas style" spangled jacket who spoiled our enjoyment of some excellent martinis in the bar, but who was obviously enjoyed by some of the other clientele. (Each for his own.) We shall return.

Room Tip: Overlooking the sea. Balconies not essential since the public areas around the pool and dining areas...

We were unsure if it would be worth it as it can be very expensive in high season, but I have to stay it was worth every penny! Classic Italian charm with modern luxury. The views are stunning and we loved loved loved the walk down to Portofino in the evenings for dinner. It has elegance and charm without being snobby. It absolutely gorgeous!

We stayed at Hotel Splendido in Sept 2011 for our Honeymoon. Every part of the trip was perfect. The Hotel is exceptional. The view from the pool is breathtaking. Lunch each day on the terrace with a bottle of rose was lovely. We rented a little boat each morning at the harbor and traveled around the coast on our own. This was amazing We swam in the Med and the water was the perfect temp. One of my favorite places.
