“Outstanding Service, beware of retractable TV cabinets.”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

All the staff were truly magnificent, possibly ranking the Splendido in the top five of hotels worldwide. Excellent evenings were enjoyed in the company of renowned pianist Vadim from Venezia, the waiters hovering about, eager to please and to smile. Dinners and breakfasts were unbelievably tasty. Alas, my minor gripe (and it is very minor indeed) was with the television set (and who, one might ask, really needs a TV with such a bucolic view?), which was automatically hoisted and retracted from a small wooden cabinet at the foot of the bed. The cleaning staff, thinking that one might like to come home at night with the television on (why?), would always leave the TV on, so we would press the bedside button to lower the screen down into the contraption, and the TV would, after the onset of slumber, continue to emit disturbing late night program noises. Ah, but to awake mornings on a hill above Portofino - et in arcadio ego.

We have just spent three nights here for my husband's birthday. Had a fabulous room, with large balcony overlooking the bay. Everything was perfect during our stay. The service is fantastic. Our sons joined us as a surprise for dinner which was great. It is expensive but for a special occasion worth every euro!

Four night stay in this excellent hotel. Enjoyed a well appointed Junior Suite with stunning views of Portofino Harbour. Bathroom stocked with quality toiletries and plenty of wardrobe space. Good Wi Fi service within room and hotel. Room to room sound travel not so good. Hotel layout compact but plenty of privacy. Staff very attentive without being over bearing. Breakfast served on the main balcony provides a refreshing start to the day. Service at breakfast could be improved when considering this level and price of Hotel. Service during dinner excellent but portions very small. Car service to Portofino excellent. Evening bar service and singer highly recommended. In summary a special place with special staff close to excellent but just fell short of excellent when judge against cost.

I've been meaning to review this hotel, as it's one that has stood out for me in the many hotels we have stayed around the world.

I honestly don't think I can fault our stay here. My husband took me here for my birthday after the Cinque Terre. I'd been wanting to come to Portofino for years and this magical hideaway did not disappoint. The rooms all have a superb view of the ocean, and it is walking distance into town - or if you're like us, after a few drinks caught the shuttle back!

The staff are excellent, service impeccable. We ate in the restaurant that night and had a great time after our meal dancing and singing inside to the piano player. We met some lovely people that night and had an even better lunch around the pool the following day.

Everything about this hotel was just magical, and I really never wanted to leave. If you want glamour at it's finest Italian style, then you must stay here for more than a hotel, it really is an experience.

There are a plethora of experiences to be had in Portofino, especially in hostelries that dot the scene. I love converted cathedrals, monasteries and decaying relics of the days when Saracens raided this part of the coastline.
This was the premier grand hotel in Portofino, quite the opposite of the monastic asceticism that prevailed before its conversion. Now this hotel stands for glamour, grandeur style and what we discovered... sensuality.
Friends staying at this august pile invited us to lunch and to crow about their suite which they were upgraded. Don't you love them already?
Well, this is what we experienced. Its Italian Riviera at its best....and finest. Everything here,as a matter of course.blends to form a harmonious composition, from the rooms and naturally, the suites, to the saltwater pool and the magnificent restaurant with exquisite views. The coloration is shades of cream which exude a feel-good ambiance .
This is as close up to celebrety watching,in fact sitting next to,watching that i have ever experienced. Its cool, i had my shades on as well. The service is personal and immaculate. when i dropped a knife,it triggered a professional flurry in remedying the status quo. Unobtrusive and with a wink,i think.

I can well understand why the pirates of old, preferred to raid this section of heaven.
Our friends regaled us with an inventory of splendid things done at the hotel. with the one that i envied the most, was yoga class in the morning with the sunrise overlooking the harbour.

There are so many secluded avenues for enrichment- time around the estate, that a stay here would be a trip in itself simply magic. I am so glad to have my friends.

I stayed with my wife and 1-year old son in April. We stayed 3 nights and were upgraded to a jr suite.

The staff were all so accommodating in particular with regard to our son. They provided bottle warmer, steriliser and electric kettle and of course a crib. Some of these items were brand new and I think purchased because we requested them. They also had a baby seat for us I'm the transfer from genoa airport (165 eur with tax well spent).

At all points all of the staff were so accommodating and kind. It was very impressive the level of training that everyone had. Absolutely no weak link in our experience.

The terrace view and infinity pool are just outrageous. The food was very good. A bit expensive but standard for a view and orient express hotel. We are totally sold on the chain having been to almost all of the properties but we felt particularly obligated to write with regard to our stay this time.

Breakfast buffet and a la carte were fantastic with full spreads and anything on the menu you can think of.

Day trip to cinque terre quite doable and made very easy by the concierge. Shuttle down to portofino v easy though town is small.

All about the terrace, restaurant, pool.
Felt very comfortable with our little man and was also set up such that we did not need to disturb anyone else given space and flexibility with time of meals etc.
